Default CTD circoumstances

I've done many searches in the forum regarding the CTD causes, especially after last convoy encounter when the most dangerous trap were not sleepy japs destroyers but many and many CTDs.

So I didn't have an exact idea of what can cause a CTD in SH4.

Es.
-Event camera + periscope
-External views
-Torps hits
-Specific sounds or events

I don't know.

I think that would be useful report CTD circoumstances... in that manner, grouping most common causes, maybe some problems will be resolved easly.

If you want, we can report sensations and feelings about the CTD circoumstances.

Maybe in the buglist thread stickied at the top of the forums ?

Sorry I cant help you much as I havent had many CTD's. Maybe 2 or three and one of those was intentional.

The others were caused by virus protection deciding it was a good time to update.

I think all the crashes for which there were known/documented reasons have by now been patched. The only remaining one I know of is a general memory overload which dumps you out of the game, but that happens very rarely and usually if you have something running in the background.

In my observation, anyway.

Lets start with you specs on the computer. Also a thought here, drop the event camera. Your asking the computer to generate a lot with torps exploding.

Once again AVGWarhawk YOU BEAT ME TO IT.

I've had no dtds unless I brought it on myself after patches and the mods and advice made available.

After reading all the posts on this suject i've come to the conclusion it's mostly 2 things that cause CTD'S.

1. Low computer specs. Can hardly play SH-3.

2. The User themselves. They don't do a little research and read the excellent advice on the forum. They just jump in then post they were robbed.

Example: one new member posted "patch what patch they put out a patch". When ? But said he was an old hand at SH-3

The reasons/circumstances for your CTD's are EXACTLY the ones I originally encountered. Now I shut off all extra programs including explorer.exe when I run SH4 AND have set my graphics to the lowest settings. No more crashes...for me anyways.

Only other change I've made was removing the "Die slowly" mod b/c part of it added more visuals(secondary explosions and that sort).

Had maybe 2-3 of these, one I know was me, one the infamous " a " key early on. Anyway, it has not been an issue.

I can imagine that more people are having CTDs than are even reporting here but are afraid of posting for fear of being bashed everytime by those more fortunate persons that do not have this problem. I think it is more that the game engine needs to be optimized rather than it being “dumb users” of the product. Please give those of us who are having this problem a break. This is the only game that I have ever experienced this with and I have games that require more system specs than SH4 does.

Look, I have no question that some users have issues with crashes.

But in the long run it is usually due to some pesky little thing like sound drivers, not enough ram, or even power supplies.

The program itself is pretty solid.

Im not 'bashing' anyone with problems. In fact Id like to help them if I can.

But sometimes folks just dont want help they would rather just place blame on everything but themselves.

(edit; cant type worth a damn)

Well....I just spent over 5g's for Alienware super computer SPECIFICALLY to play SH4.....and I get CTD after CTD after CTD...so on and so forth.....you know the drill!

So... I KNOW its not the hardware....Its the GAME....period.

I pray the next patch will fix or make stable..... the unstable, unfinished, unrefined...or whatever you want to call it.....GD game engine.

As much as I love this Sim....I can't fully enjoy my skippering if I constantly have to worry about when the next *******ing CTD might happen.

Hi, Steam Wake!

I don’t deny that many of these CTDs could be fixed on the player’s end. I, however, don’t have any of these problems with other games that even require more than this game does. I’m just saying that just because many are not having the problem that others are having does not mean that it is always the user’s fault. I appreciate the help that has been given to me over this great forum but my game will still not run. I blame UBI SOFT as it is clear that they released a game that is full of problems.
