United Artists plans a movie named "Valkyrie" where Tom Cruise should play the role of Graf Stauffenberg during the attempted assassination of Hitler.
That is absurd. A scientology-man playing Stauffenberg? Sounds like a bad-tasted hoax. that's as if David Irving (who notoriously denies the Holocaust took place) would play the role of Oskar Schindler. German: http://www.welt.de/kultur/article776...g_spielen.html

Completely OT:
One thing that always kept me wondering, how comes that the highly-rated Wehrmacht that was able to occupy main parts of Europe, was unable to complete a successful bomb attack on Adolf H? Huh? Ok, Stauffenberg had lost an eye, his right hand and 2 fingers of the left hand at Tunis, Africa, and so he was physically challenged. Was it a mission impossible for him to set both detonators in time? ![]() I tried to verify this by some experiments at home, using an eye plaster of one of my daughters who has 7,5 dioptrin, and sticking my right hand into my pullover using only the thumb, forefinger and middle finger of my left hand like Stauffenberg to open the briefcase, take out the explosives and attach the detonators. My wife took the time with her stop watch, she is a sports teacher, blond with green eyes, 7,5 dioptrin. And yes, indeed, even with some practise which Stauffenberg probably had, it takes a very long time to do. This, and the fact that Adolf H. had preponed the daily briefing because Mussolini that day came for a visit, which shortened the time available to set the detonators even more, the concurrence of both circumstances most likely caused the failure of the plan. This leaves the question, whether a man with both hands and all fingers at hand could have compensated the shortened time span due to the preponement of the briefing. |

There already is a movie about Stauffenberg. Why exactly do we need another? :hmm:

Hmm, I'll watch it anyway. Cruise is a decent actor, nothing stellar, but if there's a solid script (example, Minority Report, Magnolia) he's quite good. Bryan Singer has a good track record with The Usual Suspects, and the first X-Men flick, but this will depend on the screenplay.
Cruise's Scientology is irrelevant, I don't get the comparison y'all are making with Nazism/fascism. Both are forced upon people against their will, but there's a significant difference in scale. Anyway, like I said, irrelevant.

Why do we need another Stauffenberg movie made with hollywood actors wich is not a correct representation of real events, but instead is another historically incorrect over-dramatized standard war movie? Quote:

Actually I liked Eyes Wide Shut very much. Beside 2001 and Shining, it is the one Kubrick movie i like best (while I like Spartacus - uninteresting - and Clockwork Orange - boring - not at all, and Dr. Strangelove is so-la-la but having some funny moments).
Cruise is Mr. Top Gun forever to me - and not much more. Scientology is an aggressively spreading, inhumane, totalitarian ideology, aiming at controlling and exploiting people and aggressively trying to infiltrate structures of economical, educational and political power and influence. As such it ranks amongst Skybird's four most favourite enemies to mankind. If I had the power, I would deal most unforgiving with them.

Can anyone remember the title of this film as it's driving me nuts circular 1980's It's start off with troops swarming into government buildings in Berlin hunting down the conspirators after the July 44 plot fails then the film jumps back to late 1942 in North Africa.

Tom Cruise playing the role of a failure. That role is probably not too large of a strech for him.
