Default Film soundtracks

One of my fave things is to listen to film soundtracks, there are lots of great ones out there that not only add tremendously to the movies they are for, but also stand up as something to listen to on their own. Some great composers around doing this kind of thing, ones I particularly like are:

Klaus Badelt: The Time Machine, Pirates of the Caribbean

David Arnold: Independence Day

Klaus Doldinger: Das Boot (obviously!)

Ron Goodwin: The Battle of Britain

Thomas Newman: Road to Perdition

Anyone got any film soundtracks they particularly like?

I quite like the one on Platoon - Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.

I like the Lord of the Rings soundtrack but I would never listen to it on my iPod or anything. I just think the music was really appropriate for the movie.

*Hans Zimmer - Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Hannibal, King Arthur, The Thin Red Line

Hans Zimmer - Crimson Tide 'Roll Tide'

Okay I know it's the end title track....but it's still probably the best one out there

I have quite a collection of film scores. Some of my favourites:

Crimson Tide, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Hannibal (Hans Zimmer)
Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Jaws (John Williams)
Titanic, Patriot Games (James Horner)
Raise the Titanic (John Barry) - bad film, awesome score!
K19 The Widowmaker (Klaus Badelt)
Das Boot (Klaus Doldinger)
The Hunt for Red October (Basil Poledouris)
Band of Brothers (Michael Kamen)

Zimmer is brilliant, though I prefer his older stuff to most of his recent scores. He seems to have decided that grand themes played as loud as possible are best, which is a shame as some of the subtle sections of Crimson Tide and Gladiator are simply beautiful.
