Default Changing resolution in SH III verion 1.4

First of all I know that there is a program which changes the resolution in SH III.
But if I'm not mistaken it only works for version 1.0.
I tried using it for version 1.4 and it didn't work.

Now, the Sh III I have is not protected by starforce and it is not a pirate copy.
It is a budget edition recently published in Italy.
So considering that the game is not protected can I change the resolution in the file main.cfg and be done with it ?

This is my main.cfg file :

As you can see I've changed the Resolution setting from 1024 x 800 to 1280 x 1024.
But once I'm in the game, I can't see if the resolution has effectively changed.
Can some one confirm that by changing the resolution setting it works ?

Changing the rez by way of this cfg will not change the in game settings.

You can only get around the fixed rez by using the already available workarounds.

I was under the impression the the available workarounds only worked for version 1.0.
I even tried the program from keygetys http://www.kegetys.net/misc/ but it didn't work.
Is there a special procedure to change resolution with version 1.4 ?
Everything I read refers to version 1.0
If you know the procedure for version 1.4, would you care give me a link, ar tell me how to do it ?

Sure, use this file, it's the easiest to get working - http://files.filefront.com/SH3_XPSP2.../fileinfo.html

All you have to do is follow the readme instructions and manually change the rez settings in the d3d9.cfg after running the SP2 Rez fix, the values you need to change are the resX & resY. So far this has worked with all versions I have used.

You can even change the rez settings by alt & tabbing while in game so if your settings are not working for you then it's easy to change.

Danlisa has right, it's the fastest and the best method for changing resolution in SH3 and it works with 1.4 patch very good. But it's only one disadvantage - aspect ratio is 4:3 and there's no chance to change it to better 5:4.

Tell me about it. I got a new LCD monitor a few weeks ago, but its widescreen so no matter what I do it all looks funny. I might just have to live with windowed play.

BTW how do you make the windowed resolution bigger? The above mentioned fix does nothing for windowed mode.

I tried this res fix and it seemed to work fine at 1280 x 800 which is my standard screen resolution. However, when I tried to run the game at 800 x 600 I was unable to acces the start button on the lower portion of the screen - the mouse pointer could not move to the lower 15% of the screen.

If I can go lower res I can go higher on the video card settings and hopefully get a better frame rate!

I'll try that alt + tab

Thanks!

Cheers
