Carriers at War

With the upcoming release of SSG's highly anticipated (at least for me) Carriers at War, I'm curious if any from the subsim community plan on purchasing a copy. It think it would be a lot of fun to have some MP naval battles amongst fellow subsim aficionados!

To be honest, anything hardcore and naval has gotten my interest lately, so I think this one's a buy by default!

I had the original made back in 1991 and played it many, many times.
If this new one plays as good but with better AI and graphics, I will be very happy playing it too....

I better shut up now before Alex comes into the forum and kicks my butt.. but like I said.. tonight I installed the Gold Master.. but I dont think Im allowed to say that.. so I didnt ok. My estimate is you will have it on your desktop within 2 weeks at the very very latest.. you may even be enjoying it this time next week - depending upon Matrix Games release schedule - which I know nothing about..

Now I've got to get back to working out how to stop that invasion of Port Moresby.
Good times!

Here's a post from Gregor (VP, SSG) on the Matrix CaW forum in a thread from a user inquiring about the tactical and strategic challenge of Carriers at War:

You are cast in the role of Admiral, so once a strike has left the deck you can do nothing further to contribute to its chances of success. This might sound strange, but its actually more exciting this way - you just don't know what is going to happen. The stress that the real life carrier admirals suffered must have been astronomical.

The real art of the game is in placing your forces in the right spot, evaluating the inherently unreliable sighting reports and deciding when and with what to strike. I was playing a game the other day where my over zealous pilots had reported 8 different carrier sightings. Now some of those settled down fairly quickly to be more accurate, but trying to evaluate all those sightings, while knowing that some of them had to accurate and that a lethal enemy strike could already be in the air, is a task that will take your full attention.

It always been a hugely popular game and I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you give it a go.
Definitely sounds like a lot of fun!

I had the old version of this game on my mac many years ago. If the new one is as good, I would buy it without flinching
