Default Do I have a chance?

Hello guys. I am contemplating whether or not to purchase Silent Hunter 4, and pretty much the only thing that is holding me back is whether or not my PC will handle it alright with atleast some decent graphics.

I am running:
Intel P4 3.0GHz w/ Hyper Threading.
1GB of DDR Dual Channel RAM
200GB SATA HD @7200RPM
Sapphire ATI Radeon x850XT (double-wide cooler)
Windows XP Media Center Edition

Do I have a chance?

Why yes! I can see this computer running the game.

haha, your PC is the exact same as mine :p

Yep, it should most definitely run. Another gig of RAM would improve performance a bit, but not by THAT much, really.

IMHO SH-4 is a Ram and Video card hungry game.

Turn off anti virus and any other background programs and game will run with better fps.

Oh, also - in my observation your performance in SHIV should be pretty much equal to performance in SHIII with newer mods (that have 16km visibility), provided your video card and drivers are properly updated. Certainly the case for me, in part because SHIV takes some advantage of multi-threaded processors which SHIII doesn't, so any added load will be negated by that for your machine.

Also, if your video card is struggling a bit, you can always turn down some of the detail. I can safely say you'll need to turn off volumetric fog on yours (it eats away FPS quite a bit), but you will probably be able to dial up the rest of it without losing much performance.

The RAM footprint seems to be just over 1GB, but for the most part you'll be okay with what you have. It might be a bit slower in high time compression, and generally an extra gig would be a good idea, but like I said before - you'll be okay without it.

Thanks, I tried it. It seems I can't run in 1280x1024 resolution like I do everything else. With everyhting full, except resolution down to 1024x768, it is still a bit jumpy but its playable. I really like 1280x1024 resolution though. What would you say I should turn down so I can use that resolution. I noticed it really only lagged bad at that resolution when in the conning tower and when looking off into the horizon. If someone could please give me a good setup for my system specs with the resolution of 1280x1024 that would be great.

I run mine at 1024x768 for the same reason. I have a 3200+, 1 gig ram and ATI X1300. Higher resolution lags me also. Still very playable. You sound like me, just need more juice!

Oh and another tip which has been mentioned in another thread, switch off explorer it really does make a difference for 1 gig users, whack the disk in allow the splash screen to come up then use the task manager to end the explorer process, the whole desktop will disappear then start the game, when you've finished playing you can get the desktop back by restarting explorer.
