Default GWX deletes my careers

Ahoy Kaleuns,

GWX is on my 'puta since a few days. I've started a career, played some time, saved the game numerous times. Launched SH3 the other day, and all my career data was gone. Went mad.

Started a new career yesterday, played a while, saved games on the first patrol, went to bed. Launched SH3 today, all career data gone - files still on the hard disk, but SH3 simply doesn't show them.

Never had that problem in stock SH3, any suggestions? I know I might not save submerged nor while loading torpedoes etc., but I don't think I made this mistake.

GWX is beginning to drive me mad...

You are saving your games in a wrong way. There maybe multiple mistakes in stock SHIII as well as GWX if you save your patrol:

1.Close to other ships.
2.Being submerged.
3.Close to land.

You should always save your patrol far from land (over 250 km),without having visual or sonar or report contacts with other ships, and in surfaced position.Generally speaking, there should be clear map around you and your U-Boat must be surfaced.

Hope that helps.Good Hunting.

I've never found that 'inappropriate' saves (as described above) actually disappear.

What I do find is that odd things can happen. For example if submerged, when you load up you get the tinkling glass from shattered gauges, and I've read that this trasnlates to a slight reduction in Hull Integrity but I can't confrim that. Also things like sunk ships re-appearing etc.

But my saves have never disappeared because of this. Maybe others' have?

Sorry that doesn't help too much but hey-ho...

Nothing to do with patrol saves

Did you delete SH3 file from C\MyDocs completely prior to installation of GWX? :hmm:

You are absolutely right. Moreover,if you saved game submerged at,let's say, over 200 meters, your U-Boat will be destroyed itself within seconds after loading the save,as the depth will increase extremely fast.

I only get the shattered guages on save reloads (surfaced or submerged) if I have sustained damage prior to the save. For some reason all the damage you have sustained is loaded in at the beginning of saved game hence the noise and shattering of glass. In my experience this has had no additional effect on my hull integrity. Can't comment on saves below 200 metres as I have never done it, but I have heard of a weather mod having an effect on reloading saves that result in your boat plummeting to the bottom. I use the save function frequently and whilst I try and avoid saving while submerged, I have done it on many occassions without any bad side effects.

Yep I did, completely deleted the old SH3 installation and the sh3 folders &files in MyDocs. As I said, the save files are still there, I can choose to load career saved games, but the list is blank. SH3 must know I have a career running, but can't display the save game files. Otherwise, if the whole career would be destroyed I could only choose to start a new career. So career exists, save games can't be listed. Very strange, extremely annoying. This never happened in stock SH3 before. :hmm:

Two questions.

1. Do you use multiple installations?

2. Are the saved games in C\My Documents\SH3 or you created a different folder?

Two replys.

1. No.

2. Well, they are in the German equivalent folder, but it's the standard game save folder, I didn't change anything.

I can't think of any reason at the moment and I'm at work so I don't have GWX in front of me. I will think about it tonight when I'm home and hopefully a solution will be found.

that would be lovely. Otherwise I should completely re-install the whole game.

Funny thing, too: The GWX idea to press CTRL-ENTER to fire torpedoes is quite good, but actually it doesn't work with my German keyboard, I can still press ENTER by itself to fire torpedoes...

Try renaming the folder....prefix it with an 'x'.....take out of folder....reboot pc then return folder (do not delete the 'x' from the title) and hopefully your gamesaves will reappear

you mean the

C:\My Documents\SH3 folder

or only the subfolder containing the career savegames?

The sub folder containg the career savegames

...and if that doesn't work do it to the SH3 folder.....boot up the game (thereby creating a fresh SH3 folder) and put the career savegames folder into that
