Default Luzon memo from Halsey

My dad was a career navy man, 1939-1959. He served in WW2 AND Korea. During WW2 he had 3 ships shot out from under him and once spent 2 weeks floating in the pacific. Joined as an enlisted man and was promoted to officer during the war. He retired when they offered him command of the USS Constitution in Boston but he told them he wanted a "real" ship. This memo was his(memento), it's kinda droll but very cool. It might be hard to read cause the printing isn't very good so I'm "translating" here.
"Although the capacity audience hissed the magnificent luzon performance the gate receipts were gratifying and very little was thrown at the actors. the show goes on the road again soon and keeps going as long as the audience has a spot to hiss in.------------Halsey"

Urge, that's great!

Being a dedicated history buff, both early American and naval, I can't imagine anyone turning down a chance to serve on Constitution, let alone command her, but I'm sure you dad had his reasons. It sounds like his service experience was exciting, to say the least; maybe a little more exciting than he would have liked.

I had no problem reading the original.

Thanks for sharing.

It's real cool to have stuff like this. Like Sailor Steve, I too love this historical stuff. I have my Dad's discharge papers, and rescinded orders from when he was supposed to go out on the Thresher. All I can say is someone upstairs was watching over him.

Thankyou for sharing that!.

To what battle does the memo refer? Leyte Gulf?

It appears that the USS Houston (CL-81 NOT CA-30) was involved in the landings at Palau around the time (Sept 23) the message was sent. It was the only Sept. she was in action against the Japanese
