Default Are not in SH4 as well

I see SH4 has this as well, when your using your AA guns and shoot down a plane which is heading right at you and good night. Smash bang wallop a Jap plane crashes into you, are nuts.

On the subject of planes do you think there are less of them? Remember vanilla SH3 where wave after wave of them come at you.

Most definatly not.

Depending on time of year and area your in it can get to the point where you running submerged most of the day time due to the constant harrasment.

There are mods that lower the air traffic. As for the kamikaze routine - its actually more deliberate in SH4 than it was in SH3. I never got hit by a plane in SH3 - but with SH4 - if you do enough damage (but not kill) a plane as it dives on you - it will intentionally crash into you. The thinking here is that a pilot - in a badly mauled aircraft - has little to no chance of getting it home and down in one piece. His chances of survival at that point are pretty much gone - so he sacrifices himself to the glory of the emperor.

If you dont want to get kamikaze'd - there are a couple of tricks. One - dont fight it out with an aircraft! Historically the proper choice whenever possible... (For those that dont get it - it means DIVE!!!!). However - for those that are intent of shooting anything with a red ball on it - shoot - but either make sure you can kill the plane far enough out so that it doesnt lose control so close it lands on you - OR do only moderate damage as it comes in and finish it off as it heads away from you. If you do to much damage to it on its attack run - your going to be the final landing strip for that plane....

How much is too much? If its a twin engine - one engine afire and it will attack and pull out. If both engines are on fire - its gonna try and hit you - at that point you better destroy it before its close enough to not matter... As for single engine zekes' - once they engine is on fire - and they are on an attack run - they will try to hit you as well. However - whats odd with them is if they miss (which does happen) they often will smack off the water and circle back for another try.
