Couldn't in SH3 either. These are the first subsims to even have 3D graphics and crews.

Give them time; it'll happen someday.

I could until the latest patch. The boat couldn't be moving but I was able to walk around the conning tower and on deck.

Shift F2 or whatever the one that allowed you to pan around the control room was.

Yes, you could walk around on deck but only if the boat was not moving. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's experienced this.

It doesn't work now though.

This is no joke. You could indeed walk around the bridge and along the deck of the boat to the bow and the stern (as long as the boat was not moving). We could also move freely through the conning tower. That all changed with patch 1.2. Now it's impossible to move freely on the bridge, on the deck or in the conning tower.

You can still move around the conning tower by using shift f2 in the command room then moving through one of the doors. The camera will show black but you should be able to see the conning tower above you. Just move the camera into it.

It's similar to in MS flight sim for those familiar. When inside the sub, both the command room and conning tower rooms are drawn in the one instance. You just need to go out of the visual limits to move between them.

Tried that a lot of times and never manage to get there. Do you take a long time going to the conning tower?I tried and only get the black screen and the message "camera out of sectors". I used the conning tower/command room hatch.

In SH3 I do this and worked every time.

Someone else clued me in on it. You line up with the XO or navigator (I'm not sure what his job is - the guy who occasionally leers at you in the control room). Anyway look at him face-to-face. Now look behind him - look where the ceiling meets the bulkhead wall right in the middle of the sub (above the door to the officer sleeping quarters and the radio room - which the game fails to model, but I'm not gonna dwell on it). Aim there and just keep going. You won't see black - you'll see blue just for a second, then you'll be in the conning tower (unless you're in an S-boat which has no conning tower).

It's good that we can still get in there but it's still a pain in the neck. I hope we can eventually get it back so that it works like it used to.

You should change coordinates of Conning Tower root object (for example in NSS_Gato_CT.dat), so that rising upwards on a ladder you through the hatch got in Conning Tower ...
