I did a quick search and (surprisingly) found that this had not been posted yet. Our beloved Lothar Gunther-Buchheim died in February. He wrote Das Boot as I'm sure all of you know. ttp://books.guardian.co.uk/obituaries/story/0,,2026735,00.html

How embarassing... Well anyway, since I didn't get to say it in the last thread -- RIP LGB and thank you for helping to educate a whole generation on the trials and tribulations of life on board a u-boat.
