Default PDR Play Style Development

Play style of Progressive Degenerating Realism (PDR) to Increase Actual Realism.

As a player’s experience increases, realism restrictions can be decreased. Decreasing realism in order to Increase actual realism.

Say what? Let me explain…

Game Play Style:
Beginner / Starting new career = Full realism settings. – As an Ensign it’s your primary duty to learn and become proficient at the different stations of the boat.

Intermediate = As an Officer you have taken on more responsibilities and are allowed to use the Navigator to auto update the map. This allows you to focus your skills on the more strategic aspects of operating the boat. Intercept and Evade for example.

Master = You’re the Captain and thus allowed to use the Navigator and Weapons Officers assistance. As Captain of the boat you should be able to rely on the Officers under your command. What satisfaction is there handing out medals and promotions if you’re the one doing all the work?

Reasoning behind the PDR style:
Watching Das Boot and having read several Uboat books, the Captain often demands Navigation updates and Firing solutions from his officers. Being able to mirror this in the game only increases the realism and immersion factor. Pick your targets Number 1, Fire!!

Rules of the PDR style:
  • You must pre-define what milestones have to be reached before advancing to the next level of play. This includes being able to navigate, intercept and consistently manual plot a successful firing solution. Also you should include an actual rank increase during the game, tonnage sunk or a combination of the two. Either way the level advance has to be Earned or the whole style becomes mute.
  • You cannot ABUSE the Weapons Officer. If you are not proficient enough to get the boat into optimal firing position, why did you advance to this stage? Asking for a solution at targets over 1,000 meters or have extreme AOB, you are abusing the WO. If you want to take a shoot like that, plot it yourself “Oh Jedi of the manual targeting”.
  • This game play style only allows for the WO assistance and Auto-Map Updates, everything else is off, including event camera and the free camera.
I’ve come up with the PDR play style to help fill a void in the game. There is no existing aspect of the game that gives you the feel of starting from the bottom and working your way to becoming Captain of your own Boat. It’s just POOF – you’re the man, go out and sink some stuff. With this play style you at least have the feeling of being in command because you earned it.

**An additonal benifit is telling people you play PDR sytle instead of just saying your lazy.

Nice idea. However, doing that could ultimately make the game more difficult in certain respects, in that in order to use the assistance of officers, the realism settings go to a lower percentage as you tick those 'assistance' boxes, which would make renown harder to come by.

Still, it's nothing if not a challenge. I do think you need to come up with a more impressive acronym however You know how the military love those forced acronyms...

How about, erm... Continuously Enabled Restrictive Timetable of Assisted In-game Nuances to Test Yourself ? C.E.R.T.A.I.N.T.Y.

'Yeah I target things with CERTAINTY, so I know I'll hit them'

Actually, this sounds like a pretty good idea.

It reminds me of the book Iron Coffins and the authors progression from watch officer to u-boat commander.

With regards to less renown with lower realism percentages, there must be a way to edit the files that control what percentages are assigned to the selected realism settings.

OR just play with NYGM as there is no renown.:rotfl:
