Default Highscore hunters?

Are there any SHIV players out there who are playing for pure fun, not as a serious simulation? Are you interested in sinking as much tonnage as possible?

I had a career that ended in forced retirement where I had over 500000 tonnes sunk. On one recent patrol where I refitted three times before ending the patrol, I sunk over 300000 tonnes before limping back to Pearl in a very sorry state.

I'm not here to get involved in a mine's bigger than your's debate, just interested in other tales of massive tonnage.

I also believe that SHIV is a challenge even on 0 realism (you can still get the crap beaten out of your sub if the destroyers get you).

I know that loads of gamers on this forum are playing for the thrill of 100% realism (fair play to them) and will possibly critisise my playing style but I enjoy playing like this and have put in weeks of gameplay with huge smiles.

Comments please.

Mudrik.

I play for pure fun and relaxation and no stress

Here's one of the patrols:

And here's another patrol:
I wanted to rage Tokyo... The trip was long, but fun and full of surprises

I came to Yokosuka...

I've submerged at Yokosuka...

There was a party goin' on...

I went further a-la "This is SPARTAAAAAAAAAAA"...

I got hit pretty bad at both sides...

It took me ages to come home...

But hey, it was WAY too fun! :P

I've managed to sink:
Fuso Battleship, 34300 tons
Takao Heavy Cruiser, 15870 tons
Mogami Heavy Cruiser, 9500 tons
Shokaku Fleet Carrier, 28000 tons
and lots of other "small fish"

Har harrrrrrrrrrr!

Yes, I know what you mean.

I'm currently swapping between two flavors of careers, one on full realism with RFB by BEERY and some graphic mods/tweaks (and imperial units for a more historical aspect), which I load up and play over the weekend, and the other is a Quake-style naval shooter "career" (dual deck guns, +ammo, +deck gun damage, +sub speed, +torp damage, +crash depth, +elite crew), for which I'm not using any mods, just edited some files by myself. Obviously I don't play the latter for the career of it, just for the instant action and Quake-ish fun of it and to get rid of the stress accumulated at work

Overall, I prefer the more realistic version - gives me things to brag about when I'm out for a beer with the guys

I can certainly recommend teaming up with a buddy online and staying on the surface to duke it out with the destroyers if you want a good laugh.

Although it points out that the destroyers need a tweek, since it is very possible to take a lot of them out, it's still a fun thing to do: I can recall a recent such MP session in SH4 - Hard settings, and we managed to take out the entire destroyer screen on a massive convoy leaving it totally defenceless, we didn't even bother attacking the freighters, as it would have seemed tame after that!

In fact, we were both laughing so much on Teamspeak, that a third buddy who came on the channel ended up ordering SH on the basis that there must be something in 'all this sub sim lark' since we were having such a good laugh (we both told him to get SH3 first by the way, think he bought SH3 and 4 at the same time in the end though).

How's that for a bizarre way of recruiting a new sub nut?

When I play subsims on my own, I usually go for total realism, but you don't have to take it seriously all the time to enjoy yourself.

Nice one chaps,

So glad that I'm not alone or some kind of subsim freak. It's good to hear that there are other players who are just simply enjoying the game. I've lost enough hair in my life without spending 2 weeks real time at 100% realism sailing from Pearl to East China Sea!

MaxT.dk - good effort, I am impressed, how I'm going to beat you I don't know but I'll sure as hell have to try now!

Default Nice job!!

I don't play with 100% realism, as I have the external camera and auto targeting and no duds on, but I do play with all the other options set.

I managed to score 209730 tons after I came across a 4 battleship convoy with 10 destroyers, 3 light cruisers, and 5 heavy cruisers along with 2 tankers.

In a steller run of luck, I put all 24 fish into Japaneese hulls and sank all 4 battleships 2 heavy cruisers and 1 light cruiser. Even when I missed the ship I was shooting at, I ended up hitting a ship behind it. It was truly a site to behold.

I am kinda against refitting and going back out. IRL, when they refit, it counted as another patrol. (not that I am against anyone else doing that, just how I roll)

Chuck

I'm an 88%-er (external cam and map updates) and try to play as realistic as possible, but I gotta say that it's all about whatever makes YOU happy. Good on ya, and sink 'em all!

Holy sunken ships batman. Are you using nuclear torpedos or do you have far too much spare time? I would be amazed if there is another player on the planet, playing ANY game, who has killed that much in what is effectively one level of the game. I think this latest post of yours could kill this discussion right now. Fair play dude
