I don't know what it is about my little S-Class (S-33) but she seems to be a virtual magnet for large task forces. The first patrol was nothing special but the second patrol to the Celebes Sea had a large task force of 2 Hiryu Carriers, troop ships, heavy cruisers and escorts heading right for me about 60 km away. I managed to put one of the carriers in the drink
![]() The third and current patrol had me heading towards the South China Sea after photo ops at the harbor in Java. Coming right at me at 11 kts just like before was another large task force with 4 battleships and several light cruisers and escorts. I managed to put a Fuso on the bottom in about 30m of water. The nice part is that after the task force moved on I could head back and look at my handi-work. The only bad part of all this is that I am in an S-class with only 4 tubes and lets face it........with a top speed of 12 kts whenheading down hill the chance of a successful end around attack after an initial attack is justnot an option. Just had to share ![]() |

![]() I'm hoping to be offered a new command after this patrol and upgrade to something with a little more speed. The S-class has been a nice learning platform, but the lack of speed is defintiely a downer |

I started a career with the S-class so I could work my way up to better boat and all that but she was slow. I decided to start with the big boys so I could experience the good and bad stuff eveyone else is and comparing with the same boats. When new patch is in I will start with the S class. I laugh because she seems like her engines are clunking along and it does not look like she can go any deeper than periscope depth or she'll implode. I really feel like I'm out in the elements when using the S class.

Blashpemy! Sugar boats rule the seas!
![]() Yeah, the speed is definitely a problem when you can barely chase down a sampan... but I like the challenge in figuring out interecepts. |

I could have really used the extra tubes at these times to have at least had a chance of putting 2 large combatants to the bottom or at least dead in the water for later clean-up. I didn't think 2 fish would do the trick so I opted to send all four at one juicy target each time....at least it worked
