Default Cannot dock, career patrol

I have completed my first career patrol. I accomplished all three of the objectives and these have been checked off. I go back to my base in freemantle and I'm given the option of refitting or postponing. But I don't want to do either! I want to dock and end my patrol! Am I doing something wrong? The base has the solid blue anchor. I've sunk plenty of enemy ships. I have no torpedos left and I'm low on diesel. Why can't I end my career patrol?

(My career started in 1944 out of Freemantle)

Try saving the game and reloading it and THEN sailing into fremantle. I had the same problem in '42 with my S-class and someone suggested reloading it and THEN trying to enter port and i did and it worked! Make sure you save it when you're a ways away from port though... then load it up and sail in... worked for me anyway! Good luck!

Default No use

Nope, tried five times now. I've even tried double-checking my radio messages (a process which takes 5 - 10 minutes, presumably a bug) and making sure I have completed all objectives. Looks like I'll just have to abandon this career.

Heh. That'll teach me for buying unfinished software. Maybe it'll get better in 1.2.

What I'm seeing is the radio messages to change home base is not getting saved to your profile. Go to your latest save in documents and settings SH4 folder and look at the file in notepad:
"careerTrack.apc"

section:
[CareerTrack 1.CareerStatusLast]

CurrentFlotilla=PearlHarborCommand
CurrentFlotillaBase=PearlHarbor

--------------------
You need to return to the base listed here to dock and end patrol. I've noticed in my case the same two entries represendting the last save number I made has had the same information.

Another feature that appears to not get saved is the individual crew power-ups. If you get a skill added to boost torpedo hit strength and the like, you need to use and take advantage of that before your next save or it will be gone.

Another feature of ending patrol is you need to get a radio message from HQ telling you you can. This involves satisfying all your mission objectives and/or using all your torpedoes and call in a mission status. If you don't get a radio call to come home, then you still have something to do. When out of torpedoes that something to do is shaddow a convoy within 4,500 (yards or whatever) and lock onto a non escort ship and call in a contact report while on the surface. Hang out a few minutes and you should get a call to come back to base.
