The decl gun crews in SH4 are ridiculously small:
2 people for the deck guns, 2 for the 40mm Bofors and 1 for the 20mm Oerlikon. To make it more historic, there should be: - 2 (loader and gunner) for the Oerlikons - 4 (pointer, trainer, gun captain, loader) for the Bofors - 5-8 (pointer, trainer, gun captain, loaders) for the larger ones. I think a five inch gun should have even ten people to properly function. I suppose the crew numbers could be easily changed, but the real problem would be where to put the additional 3d figures on the sub? I mean they sadly cannot engage in any useful 3d work, but at least there should be busy looking sailors standing by a gun in 3d. Any ideas?

personally I take my gun teams from the rest of the crew - I don't sail with anyone permanently assigned to either the guns or damage control. I think this is a very interesting idea though.

Me too, but that is not the question.
Question is, would it be possible to implement a 8 man gun crew for a 5" in Sh4? With 8 men actually on Deck? Ok, with 2 5 inchers and two Bofors you would need 24 men to crew the guns alone...

*bump*
Nobody interested in that except me? Strange. I will have to try some modding myself. Could at least someone point me to the correct files?

Oh, I'm interested, but I'll bet it's a real framerate killer.

I've been looking into rates of fire and in doing so I found Vice Admiral James Calvert USN saying that during the war, when he was a junior officer in the USS Jack, they tried their best to reduce the number of men in a gun's crew, simply to reduce the number of men on deck. For instance, on a 3 inch, the roles of gun captain, pointer and spotter were combined into one, but with a direct intercom connection to the radar operator for assistance in spotting the fall of shell.
