Manual Aob Calculator Update
I just wanted to tell those of you who have downloaded the printable AoB Calculator, that I have made some design changes. It's a bit larger, for easier reading. I added a Nautical Mile to Yards conversion table that has the most used distances when in attack mode. It should be a help for finding range to target when using the Stadimeter when in the higher realism settings.
I've also added some printable instructions (with images) to show how to use the Calculator when the GamePlay Settings are set to enable "Map Contact Update". I am working on instructions for the Calculator when the "No Map Contact Update" is selected. The calculator will help in marking target bearing positions on the Nav. Map, when using visual target sitings alone. The original thread which has been edited by me, can be found at: https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=110949 My website for direct downloading is: http://mysite.verizon.net/ress1z18 Thanks for all the good words and comments! ![]()

I really do like this too.
Thanks a lot; this is a must have tool for me. That is a very well done HowTo, as well.
All the best,

I had to print these out from within firefox. When I downloaded the wheel images and printed them, they were all scaled to fit the page and each dial printed out the same size. From within firefox, they printed the right size.

I wish to inform all who may be interested, I have completed a tutorial for using the Calculator with the GamePlay Settings at high realism (both Manual Targeting System, and No Map Contact Update enabled).
It took me a while to test because I, like others, are seeing inaccurate readings for distances through the Stadimeter comparied to the navigation map tools (Ruler etc.). Its quite frustrating to find the ranges off by several hundred yards. I guess the developers didn't want to change the basic game engine from using the metric system of tenths and hundreths, but using tenths of nautical miles on the map is ridiculous. I found these tenths of nm were inaccurate, and that really burned me. With out having a good range to target the whole calculation proccess is in disorder, and results will be inaccurate. It's little wonder the manual states a proper attack range to target is 1000 yards or less. Heck, even grandma could hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle if she got close enough. I believe the best way to avoid inaccurate measuring is to use the Metric, rather then the Imperial unit of measurement. You can change it in the GamePlay menu. This really burns me too, since this is an American campaign simulation and the United States standard unit of measurement was just an after thought, placed on the game through the first patch! As I remember in the German U-Boat simulation of SH III, the crew spoke German, the Recognition Manual cover was in German, the music was German marching crap. But, in this game we don't get the use of a decent home standard unit of measurement. ![]()
