Default Soerabaja photo recon - odd mission

Hi, I'm a noob and on my 2nd mission. This mission is to take photos of the harbour at Soerabaja - however it also happens to be my home base after the fall of the Philipines which took place half way through my first mission in the Celebes Sea.

I don't get it! I've submerged (to just over 40ft as its so shallow) and tried locking on ships etc but the camera tool won't activate. Do I need to leave the harbour and wait for it to fall to the Japanese before I re-enter or is this a glitch? Indeed, am I just better off re-docking but then what?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to subsim

I have never heard of getting a mission to your own base

Are you sure it is still your base?

Dead sure! I see only US flags on both the ship and the dockside. In addition, I surface and do not come under fire. More importantly, going to the chart the home-base symbol is placed on top of the mission objective symbol. If I knew how to take a screen-shot I'd post it (if I knew how to do that aswell).

Thanks for the welcome.

Right, I think I took a shot, it says so on the message scroll, giving me the location as in "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\SH4Img@2009-04-15_16.18.53_831.bmp"

but I can't seem to locate it within the Ubisoft directory in that locsation.

It's in the main SH4 directory ... sometimes it's hard to spot among all the other icons.

No Surabaya is your home base and the other port has a similar name. Check your nav map and you will see a camera icon in an orange star. It will not be at your home port.

Actually he is right, there is a photo mission to his home port. I just checked the Campaign files and the photo mission start date is Dec 1941, but we don't lose the base until March 1942. So he just happened to get it before we lost the base.
I had a similar mistake at Manila. We lost the base but I got a mission there and was ready to attack merchants, but the merchants entering the harbor were flying US flags.
So, Bedbug you have run into one of the bed-bugs in SH4.

Maybe Admiral Nimitz wants a picture for insurance purposes.

Default Almost Same problem

I'm now based in freemantle after the fall of soerabaja to the japs. But i'm on a mission to recon the port and photograph some ships.

Situation: in the middle of the enemy port, underwater about 500m from contact.
stormy weather rain thunder and waves.. I can spot 3 merchant ships and what appears to be a destroyer or a fast cruiser...but the periscope wont even recognise there's a ship there. So cant lock on cant take pictures.
Saved there
Surfaced and was shot to death.
Reload my saved file. Waited til morning looking from time to time but still no lock no pictures....got found and blown to pieces

Is there a way to succeed this mission or do i have to go back home without completing the objective
.
