Default Does SD work now?(v 1.2)

It does not pick up surface traffic, but lastnight I got jumped twice by A/C. Is there a way to increase the % probability that it will detect incoming aircraft?

Two ways I can think of.

dont select "realistic sensors"

and make sure its manned by a competent sailor

on a side note... oh thank goodness it does not detect surface craft now !

right on. I just wish it were more realistic. BTW, realistically, how did the SD fare in detecting incoming a/c? At this point, I dont know what realistical means... realistic..realist,.,.real...realll..... am I really alive and kicking, or part of some vast conspiracy, where the Roman empire never actually collapsed?:rotfl:

Too many variables to give a definitave answer.

Aspect of the target, size of the target, weather, sea state (rolling of the ship), etc.

Although I kind of doubt this is modeled in the game. It seens to be somewhat random. I havent really been caught with my pants down except for once or twice out of probably 10 or more patrols now.

Lately Ive become alot more catious and running submerged in daytime when near the Japaneese coast.

Yeah, usually when I'm jumped its at sunrise or senset. I read O'Kanes "Clear the Bridge!" and he says they always dived at those times. In waters near japanese controlled areas I always travel submerged during the day.

There's some files in Ducimus's mod that gets the sensors back to 1.1 setup so the SD will find aircraft and ships. I think it's still up in the air about SD working correctly. Maybe the SH4 engine wasnt built with this type of radar in mind? You'd think it would have been since SH3 we had the metox thing. Oh well. What I do near the Japanese controled areas is patrol at 8m depth with both scopes up (the ai will scan with them at high compression) and if a plane is spotted even at 4000m away you can crash dive in time to avoid damage. The bad part is this isnt good on your gas milleage LOL But who cares if it lets you run on diesels with your SJ radar scanning and it allows you to save that battery charge for times you really need it.
