Default weird lag, lowering of my fps...

this only ever happens in choppy waters, i get a hard slowdown of my comp in fps (from my usual steady 40fps down to about 10) only when i look in one direction... keep in mind just my boat and the ocean, nothing else around me in that direction that would cause lag. if i turn the camera 90 degrees away from that direction or more, the lag goes away. calm seas and slight chop is fine, steady 40fps in all directions. right now i have IUB installed, SH commander, and fubar's skins (viib/ c, iia/d, ixb/c)... any ideas?

you could give your system specs that surely would help us understand your problem much better. :hmm:

The same happened to me when I updated my drivers.

Is that what you did?

whoops sorry, 2.6ghz p4, 2 gigs DDR400 corsair XMS RAM, ati x800 xt agp, soundblaster audigy 2

it is not because of my computer... as i said it's only in 1 direction, the opposite direction, which has the same amount of stuff rendered on it, my ship and the waves, 40 fps

drivers is a possibility, i haven't updated them in a month or so.. using 5.12's atm

Your computer is surely not the cause try what Marhkimov suggested by either updating or downdating(if thats a word) your drivers.

Yeah. After I updated my drivers, evertime I looked straight ahead (between bearing 310 and 050), my computer would lose about half of my FPS. That happened after I upgraded to Cat 5.13.

So after that, I went back to the old drivers. The problem went away.

Now I run with Cat 6.1, and it's all good again.

My specs, btw:

Pentium4 - 3.1GHz
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128mb

Could be a PCI latencey issue too.

I have similar weird lag on occasion, but it only occurs in the control room. No where else, its weird.

Only happends if i quit and start a new game or something. If i reboot im fine. Since its isolated to the control room im stumped. Happened ever since around the time i installed gimp, pack3d, java support for it, and started tweaking with sound levels. If i reboot im fine, but its wierd. AMD64 processor, with 2 gigs of ram, and a radeon 9800 pro shouldnt do that.

That also sounds like a PCI latencey issue

PCI Latency article here:

http://www.geocities.com/phileosopho...cilatency.html

PCI Latency Tool here:

WinXP 32 and 64 version here:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=951

Win98, ME and Win2000 version here:

http://www.2-software.net/m-wfdownlo...-lid-1823.html

This did wonders for my sysytem and old Ti4200 card.

Works on ATI well too which I understand ATI has a tool or it's a setting in the newer ATI drivers

Who? the orginal poster?

Ive encountered PCI latency before. At least as it pertains to IRQ steering. It left such an impression i now only install windows under the standard PC HAL and NOT ACPI hal.

All my hardware is on its own IRQ, and it does make a big difference on some hardware combinations.

i mean in timing settings in terms of devices such as video cards talking to the bus and hoging bandwidth if there set to high by default

read the description at the guru3d link above

already fixed that the same day i got the new card, and over a year ago on my old vidcard hehe

6.1 cats didn't help either

as i said it happens under very specific circumstances, every time in stormy weather and looking in 1 direction, 90% of the time the direction is south

is it possible it has something to do with the seabed textures in IUB? wut's the name of it so i can replace it with the default to test it out?

i'll also start trying older drivers... this is driving me nuts, i've really been craving this game again
