Default Things that were done right!

Ok, we have spent our time cutting the game to shreds. Now it is time to mention the things that are right. I would like to start with the following:

Weather looks to done right. I do not have endless weeks of rain

Dynamic campaigns. No repeats for me and affects of Manila being taken by Japan has moved me to another base. Good stuff!

Water is very realistic to me. Well done and it even looks like swells in rough weather.

****Please add what you believe is done right. No negative MOJO here please****

- Ship models look fantastic.

- Ship destruction sequences - flying debris, the rippling wave of destruction throughout the ship - are truly cinematic.

- Waves.

- Lighting effects. Sunlight on the water, moonlight on the water. Flames from sinking ships reflecting off the wave tops at night - magic!

- Moonbeams!

- Load times on my machine are a fraction what they were in SHIII.

- New mission types beyond simple patrols.

- Interesting radio traffic.

- I like the little typewriter effect for mission intros.

- Damage - the big ol' holes, broken propeller shafts, etc.

- Linked systems for the damage model

Many great advances over SHIII with SHIV.

LOL. Ok.

The radio implementation looks good (the audible radio as opposed to the message log).

I think anything else I'd mention has been covered already.

I'm really loving the start out of harbor button .One of my major
Dislikes in ShIII was trying to get out of harbor at TC.

Absolutely the dynamic campaign and the feeling that comes with it. To me it really feels as if I am in the thick of things, very well done. I surely dig the graphical improvements too, the added details such as lifeboats, the great looking explosions and ship interiors etc .. but since I am all about gameplay first, no other improvement beats the dynamic campaign for me.

Agree , while I have been pointing out were the game lacks, I do agree it can be built on and it can become great.

Q? on the weather, I hear thunder but I don't see lighting or see lighting flashes behind the clouds. Is that down to me not having a good enough card (GF6600GT) or because I don't have the environment box ticked.

And while ammo bunker torp hit look really good the explosions and somke, I guess it would take an engine like the Crytek one to cause the damage an explosion like that would make. Sub school is the only place I use the outside camera, but after a ammo hit on the Cruiser in Sub school and the massive explosion, when it clears everything is still intact, even the flag is still bright and clean.

Yes SH4 has a lot going for it , but it needs a lot of work.

Apart from the big ones that need fixed, I'd like a DC report on parts that can not be 100% fixed and would need a return to port. Need to fix DC and give damage times and a faults report. The only ones that give you a report on a time fix and damage% is when you put your cursor over the AA gun and Deck gun headings on page1 the crew page, in page 2 it only give a number when you hold you mouse of the red bar on the left hand side of the damaged part = 0.051.

The raw ingredience is there , need some very good tuning.

I played the battle of samar last night and although not historically accurate after I sank 2 battlships I just sat back and watched the fighting, it was pretty cool. Also I like the fact that if a carrier is alerted to your presence it will send out planes to hunt for you.

Yes that is a very nice function that I wish SH3 had. The harbours look great but once you have seen them it gets a bit boring

-water run-off effect on the periscope lense, best I've ever seen in any sub game.
-I love watching the diveplanes deploy and retract.. sometimes its the little things.
-crew management is my favorite so far
-at least a dozen other things that I will recall next time I start up SH4 (which will be in 5 minutes)

This is an interesting one. The subs skins are not bad. Maybe some more gray in them? I do like the skins though.

Map detail on shorelines is very nice. Map in general is nice.

No map update works well also....do not see convoys 500NM off.

Ship variety is very nice

Interface..not bad once you get a handle on it.

Crew changing watch and actually seeing different person is really great!

PK is a great device...needs a repair but that is coming

I have to say it again...weather model is excellent. One of the biggest headaches in SH3 is now repaired and awesome.

I love the freedom of the camera.....I like to hoover right above the water and watch as my boat gets closer and gets knocked around in large swells as they bounce off the hull.......this truely is a beautifull game!!

- Crew Managment is now...Managable! and with great success.

- Water effects are the best in a game to date.
- Putting a hole through the Yamato or a Kongo BB will NEVER get old
- Weather Effects

- Starting out of port is a great idea.

- Seeing allied Ships take part in the combat is a great way to feel more immersed. Plus it kills time in the best way possible while you wait for the torp reloads.

@Badaboom

Water action is very well done and water over the sub is done well also. Need a small fix on the sub coming out of water....no biggie really. But, yeah, the water behavior is excellent.

Nice pic bro!

THings I like:

Sailing on a clear night with a full moon.

Ordering general quarters.

The new watch system for the crew.

The weather seems a lot better to me. Currently sailing around in blustery clear weather. It also seems as if it may be tied to season or locale a bit more but that might be my imagination.

The new mission structure. Having to drop off supplies, pick up pilots and so on is great. I just wish we could be tasked with saving a bunch of nurses from the clutches of the evil Japanese Empire....Devs take note!

Regardless on what I might have said on the matter, aircraft in general seem to have been reworked slightly for the better.

Damage system is much better and will be a winner once the mods have jollied it up a little.
