Default Marshall Island patrol Where are the ships

Just started my career in 1941 and the first patrol is Marshall Islands navigated there and the star turned grey and I got order to engage and destroy enemy merchants.

Have now been sailing the islands for days and have found no shipping at all can anyone suggest the best place to patrol in this area.

Also any tips on finding targets would be very useful.

Thanks guys.

Make sure you turn your radar on and set it to 80000 and continuous sweep... sometimes mine turns off on me and then you dont get any radar contacts (besides from the AA radar, lol)

Thanks for the prompt reply but I'm in a Porpoise and don't have a radar onboard.

Well you might get contact reports, otherwise submerge periodically and try to listen for contacts with the hydrophones.

I didn't see anything around there either. So I went down to Rabaul and sunk two escorts partoling the entrance to the harbor and went in and cleaned up on the docked ships. Don't get too close on the surface though as there are a couple of stationary gun boats in there.

Tried this also and the only contact I picked up was a friendly tanker chased it for ages until I identified it

Is there any area in the Marshall Islands which would make a better hunting ground. The first part of the patrol is complete but I have no idea how long the second stage will take and to be honest I'm getting a bit bored with the sailing about randomly.

I give it about 5 days. Also, grab you map that came with the game. Look for the shipping lanes. Head in the lanes and see whats up.

Hopefully you are not part of the Canadian crowd that did not get the map

hehe. yes, the marshall islands are pretty much filled with American ships when they send you there [first mission, 1941].

i head west towards guam. you will hit air traffic soon after leaving the Marshalls west, enemy ships can be found around there.

another option is to head towards wake island after getting the star grey. wake gets hit twice really fast in 41' [second time falling to the Japs] plenty of nasties floating around wake for months..
