Does any of you know how the crew configuration usually was for this type of boat? For what I read, it was about 44 men, you had the commander, and four or five? officers, petty officers and seamen. So, how many were assigned to engines, torpedo rooms, control rooms, etc?

It's difficult to say as some people had two roles at a time, depending on the situation, but you must consider that the crew was divided in 3 shifts, and only when in combat situation were all members called to their places to reinforce the other ones. So I would say that an average of 30 is what runned the U-Boot in normal conditions, manning the engines, doing torpedo maintenance, etc. (1 shift working, 1 shift manteinance and 1 shift sleep/free time).
If that helps a bit...:hmm:
