Default CTD, CTD and one more CTD

Ok, WTF is wrong with this game? I can't finish any single mission without ctd. Everything is ok when I reach the mission zone. Than nightmare begins...ctd after 5 minutes of playing, loading save, 5 min. and bah...another CTD!!! And so on. I don't know maybe my PC is screwed but I don't have any CTD problems in another games, only in this one.

Please, tell me how I can fight with this ? Or maybe should I stop playing with hope that patch 1.2 will change something.

Here is my PC spec:
ASUS K8V7 SE Deluxe
Athlon64XP 3Ghz (2,2)
Galaxy 7600GT 256Mb ram AGP (93.71 drivers)
1 GB ram

Thank you

Hi E-1
My rig is P4 3Ghz
2 gb ram
XFX GeForce 7600 GS 512mb AGP
And I use on board sound and don't have CTD.I'd get more opinions. And an extra gig of ram couldn't hurt. Good Luck.

Have you tried to unistall SH4 then reinstall then patch then run the game? This has helped me with ctds.

You are a little low on RAM if you have the graphics setting high. Make sure you have plenty of HD cache space. Check all your drivers (esp sound.) As I recall it's Soundmax on that board. Reinstalling game with no mods would be a very good test to try. If you have tons of auto start programs and some are spys like Kazza, your 1 meg might not be enough to run the game. SH4 is much more demanding than any other game I have ever played. If you have spies, you can download a free killer from www.tennebril.com. Do not use adaware or other donationware. They do not get rid of the worst spies and make things worse.

Take a look at START->Run->"msconfig<enter>" Startup tab. Uncheck anything you don't need to run your PC. You can recheck things if you have trouble after a reboot. If you're going to run on a 1 megger, you really need to have a squeeky clean memory on bootup.

Yes, this is the first thing to try. Reinstall SH4 and then install the patch, right away. It seems to help a lot of people.

Upon scanning the forums and making a mental collection of CTD issues since release, lets knock out the known CTD:

'A' key for sure CTD
Stadimeter (not always)

The next number one issue I have found is sound and sound cards. Reduce acceleration.

Reinstall the game as Neal offered. This seems to take care of some issues.

Fear not. Looks like a hardware conflict. Just need to iron it out. I have had 3 CTD in 35 hours of play.

1. 'A' key...I hit it by accident when I was supposed to hit the TAB key.
2. Refit at port and upon starting my 3D wake was gone, I went to use the stadimeter and CTD. Reloaded at the port autosave and have had not issues since.
3. CTD for no apparent reason other than a large convoy in extremely bad weather. I think the computer was just getting asked to much. More likely I found downloaded Nickalodeon games and crap from my kids. I cleaned that up and defragged. No issues since.

My set up:
AMD 64 3200+
1 gig RAM
Radeon X1300 XGE 512mb
Onboard sound.

All sliders in game at 1/2 or better. Most other boxes check with exception of EE....the fog kills my FPS.

I have only had 1 CTD and 2 lock-up in about 20 hours of play. So, i hope these possible fixes work for you that people mentioned.

Thank you for all advices I will do what you wrote.

I play on high graphic settings: 1280x1024, all sliders maxed and all effects checked (about 25-30fps, 15-20 in ports) but I tried with lower settings and nothing changed, still have ctd's. I will try reinstall the game and patch this again. Anyway, I will let you know with my progress

Happy Easter

Well I've had a quite a few CDs. BUT, I'm trying to track down the culprit. I THINK CDs are happening when I come out of time compression then double-clicking the tabs on the control panel. ie. go to bridge view. I'm trying to get out of this habit and clicking once on the icons or using the F keys. I also get CDs in external views and it's posibble it's due to pressing more than one view rotation key at the same time. Not confirmed. I'm also now running on one processor and SO far the game appears to be more stable. (I have tried Neal's suggestion of reinstalling but this made no difference)

I've also had BSD when coming out of time compression, not many thankfully, but the error appears to relate to the sound card driver. (Which is up-to-date)

But I have to say I'm having a blast with this game. The more I play, the more I notice of those "little" things that make this game brilliant.

PS
(The guy in the control room won't let me near that map. Press shift+F2 and watch his eyes follow you around the room. Shifty bugger! I swear he growls when I go near him.)

AMD 64+ Dual 4800+
4 gig RAM
Radeon X1800XT (CAT 7.2)
