Default 8800 Apr 5 driver discussion

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_97.94.html

I just noticed this, I will try them when I get home, praying they have fixed the resize/underscan and HDTV/resolution detection issues that are plaguing us.

Anyone tried them yet?

God I hate the 8800s right now. Fast yes, stable yes - feature/driver-wise, total crap.

I have an 8800GTX - I'm not experiencing - or am blissfully unaware of - any problems.

With these drivers?

I don't have any SH4 specific problems with the 8800 either. It's a great card but the drivers need a lot of work. There are many problems with the 8800 drivers for HDTV users that need resolutions other than 1024x768 and 1280x1024, and with features such as underscan compensation which is required by nearly all HD display owners trying to use 1080i. This affects my SH4 experience by forcing me to use 1024x768 - I can't use any resolution higher even though my display supports 1080i (problem is, it overscans that signal to about 5% larger than the viewable area, so the driver needs to resize/underscan the desktop to fit, which it usually does by creating custom resolutions with something like Adapter Scaling or other methods, problem is, they're all broken.)

I've checked the NV forums and it looks like they haven't fixed those problems, I'll probably upgrade anyway so I'm just curious if this release breaks anything else with SH4. I doubt it since it looks like they've barely changed a damn thing.

If you're running these drivers OK with SH4 just post here, thanks.

I had some good luck using these with my 7900 GS's. Fixed my problems in IL2 1946 and SHIV looks great! They may help with your 8800's...

The 8800 drivers are completely different. Those could be interesting, it says "experimental support for 8800" but sounds kind of scary too. Might fix the scaling problems but who knows what else you're getting, could be a devil's deal...

I will try them out of sheer desparation of fixing the scaling/underscan bug.

With the Forceware 101s on your 7900s? I may give 'em a run.

Got my 8800 GTS day after release and had nothing but lockups and blue screens. Until i reinstalled windows (It was a fresh install when i got it). Alot of the problems seemed to be caused by uninstalling old drivers and reinstalling new ones, each time i did this my machines stability just got worse. The drivers arent quite right, but fairly stable.
