Mods you are using and Why?

Okay, I just can't stay away from SH4 and I'm back for another go at it (like a moth to a candle.) Mods help so I would like y'all's opinion.

What Mods do you have installed and why did you choose those particular Mods?

(Currently, sunk by an early dawn aircraft raid at first light, those wiley Japs knew right where I was even though I was zig zagging all night long. I guess my radar operator missed his morning cup of bilge water)

Mods:

GreenLamp Mod- Simple and amazingly needed! First one I downloaded

SH4 Crush Depths- I wanted to play as accuratly as possible and it was hard to do with wussy crush depths in the stock game. I like it to be realistic

Captain Midnight's CBS News Sound Mod - The Crew needs somthing to listen to while out on patrol. Depsite the fact that CaptainCox found problems with it, I still use it. The doubled up music sounds like interference to me, and only happens rarely. "Johnny Got a Zero, Johnny Got a Zero..."

SH4 Realistic Battery Life- Again, I like realism.

Retro Nav Tools- I got tired of having clutter on my chart table. It was nice eye candy but when push comes to shove, I like SH3's Nav tools. Simpler, easier, cleaner.

Ultimate Soundpack- Love the custom noises added in this mod. There was problems though with voice sounds added for dives and surfaces, so I just deleted them. I didnt like the U571 Quotes all the time either, personal taste. Everything else from creaking to engine hums to torpedo noises and gunfire all sound better than stock

Beery's Sun and No Intro Mod- I liked what Beery's mod did to the sun. I almost have to stick my hand up infront of my face because the sun's glare is so nice through my monitor. I did like the poem intro movie though, so I kept that, but no more ubisoft logo

ParaB's Tweeked Airstrikes- More realistic Jap plane patrols. Works great! On my last patrol we only spotted 3 or 4 flights of planes, and they only started looking for me once I started causing trouble off Guam. Way better than the swarm of bees in the stock game.

Green Lock and Position keeper Button- Everything else CaptainCox did was great, this is too. Makes seeing if my tracker is actvie or not.

Real Medals Mod- I like realism, if you cant tell. Earning real medals is better than crackerjack prizes...

CaptainCox's Telemeter 8dgr Lense- I actualy have both his lenses but this one seems like a normal real periscope. I dont know which one was historicaly used, possible one lense for attack and another or observation, but this one has tick marks for me to check height and bearing and all that jaz, plus the eye cups now seem more 3D. Huzzah Realism!

360 Imperial Bearing Tool- had it in SH3, Have it now! It's very helpful

Misc- I also changed some Texture files. On the interior of the sub there are some pictures of US Soldiers in europe smoking and saluting. Thought this was silly so I replaced them with the actualy historical pictures from the launch of the Triton and a picture of the commanding officer of the Triton when it was sunk- my salute to him. I also changed the pics on the desk of the captain's desk in campaign mod to Triton pictures. Also, atleast on the Tambor Class sub, the posters seen are not that large in size. I replaced the picture of a girl painting (though easy on the eyes) with a Speed-Bearing chart that I photoshopped to look like paper. It hangs near the Periscope in the Conning tower, so it is both authentic looking and useful as i'll use it when trying to get speeds in using the only function that works on the chrono, the timer.

It's worth noting that some mods make the game playble while your waiting for that patch.

True...or..may make the game unplayable when they conflict with the new patch.

I'm using an "enchanced gauges" mod (I forget who made it, its the one that turns the edges of the gages red/brass coloured and includes the green lamp mod... sorry I forgor who you were! ), and a mod that tones down air attacks, while making air attacks more deadly at the same time when you do encounter them.

I have the Less Messages Mod (Because it basically makes the game work IMO)
The CBS News Radio Mod (Very Cool)
Greenlamp mod (Very helpful)
Depth Charge Shake (Immersion)
Keyboard Function Mod (Very Helpful)

I'll probably be getting the Mini-Chronometer
Real Medals
Harder Enemy Escourts
Increased Crushed Depths
Real Battery Life
HMS Repulse
and maybe some of the other sub skins and Radio stations

No biggie! Just use the JSGME to install/remove as necessary.

Besides, all mods should be removed before applying any kind of path whether game patch or mod patch.

Better yet, a clean install, restart, followed immediately by the patch.

With Silent Hunter 3, I played the game of installing mods and making copies of the original files so that I could uninstall the mods and put back the original files each time a new patch was released.

I can't be bothered to do that this time, so I'll wait until the game is patched as much as it's going to be and then I'll add mods as needed.

Though I have put for the time being the game on the selve,

I am using the GreenLamp mod
It is very helpfull for obvious reasons

Captain Midnight's CBS News sound mod.
I like the "atmosphere" that this mod creates. I have also enhanced it with a few period songs that I posses.

I see that more and more mod are released everyday. I will eventually try them when a new patch will be around.

Uhm, why not use JSGME? Install/deinstall mods with a simple mouseclick.

A brilliant piece of software.

@ Topic:

so far only my own fewer radio messages and tweaked enemy airstrikes mods and jmmimadrid's modified icon colours.

Very good suggestion. I'm so used to doing it the old fashioned way.... I'll give it a try. Thanks.
