Default British ship in a German port?

Hello submariners

I'm playing GWX, and it's 1941. Everytime I go through the Kiel canal, at the West end there is a British ship (a tanker of some sort I believe) in that little port along with German ships. I don't remember when it started showing up there, but it's there consistently now, everytime I pass by to/from a patrol.

First time I saw it I initially left it alone, thinking maybe it was a captured ship or something(?). Then a couple Stukas showed up and bombed it. They damaged it, but it didn't sink. So I backed up, got into a firing position and sunk it with a torp (no deck gun, type II).

It dosen't seem very sporting to kill a sitting duck like that so I leave it alone now.

Can someone enlighten me as to why it's there?

If you get renown for sinking then go ahead, unleash the torpedoes, sitting duck or not

Sitting duck tanker should go with a few close range well placed
waterline shots from the DG save the torps for sport.
call it gunnery practice while leaving port.

Isnt the Kiel canal classed as a neutral area?

I might check that out, easy tonnage! I snuk into Scapa flow tonight in my new shiney type VIIB, a bit dissapointed to only find a troop transport at the end , I was hoping for a BB or at least something worth more than 8k. Half of my torps were duds too I was fuming lol. I only got 16k for a whole patrol!!!!
