And like the Stock SH3 there is a wide variety of AI, from stunningly stupid to too-damned-accurately brilliant.

Just like real life

and around here.

From what I noticed up to now (playing hard and very hard) on the whole the DD AI is not so bad, much better than in Vanilla Sh3.

Rather strange is the action of the merchants whent attacked. When I attack a group of merchants the whole group always slows down when I hit a ship. This seems not to be logical to me as I think they should rather sail off as fast as they can, with a zig-zag-course.
Also, it's much easier for the sub to hit the target when it sails on slow speed.

Last night I sent 4 torps at a "Huge European Liner" and they spotted them, pulled hard to starboard and stomped on the gas.

Due to my poor skills at manual targeting I was only about 500 yrds from her so I got her anyway, but the AI took a classic evasion maneuver.

I was impressed.

One thing ive noticed with the AI is that convoys etc zigzag and evade a LOT more often and effectively than in SH3.

If you're spotted expect it to become a lot harder to get a shot, they turn away exposing smaller area and so on. Its quite good.

However, destroyers and so on occasionally sit back and watch/dont react at all when i even take them on with deck guns.

AI ranges from good to retarded.

I think ramming was a valid tactic, but it wouldnt kill the DD in most cases from what I understand. The sub was certainly in bad shape after the ramming, I wouldnt expect it to dive or go much deeper than periscope depth without flooding severly.

I've watched a couple japanese destroyers go down after being bombed by their own aircraft as they were circling to drop DC's on me.

The quiet sarcasm of that last throw-away line is exquisite.

Yeah SHIII was same way. And it sucks instead of taking you on with deck guns they just try to Ram you and die in process.

i think only the small ships that drop charges ram, i have to say though, they are better at ramming than shooting their guns:rotfl:

Its hit or miss with me.The merchants slowing down thing might be a
bug.DD's escorting military ships are top notch at times. On my last patrol I shot four fish at carrier that was heavily escorted and i swear
one DD picked up speed and took two of those torps.

I think they merchant ships go as fast as their slowest, so when you hit a ship they need to slow down. The DD go a ttheir own speed and run around like chickens looking for you

and they always do, its very hard not to get spotted for some reason, they make a ring so large that I have no choice but to get close

I once had a DD sacrifice itself against 6 torps fired at a Fuso BB. It seemed to swing around in front of their paths, effectively ripping itself apart in the process of eating the torps, but saving the BB.

Frustration mounted.
