Default Sounds

After buying SH4 yesterday, solving the directX installation problem, and downloading the patch, altering the options to suit my computer and getting a reasonable game, I still find the sound to be a problem. Voices of the sailors are so faint you can barely hear them and the explosions on ships are minimal even when I'm out there watching the torpedoes sink. Is there a thread providing a solution? All my computer sound volumes are on maximum. The Music option is the only one that provides a decent level.

The sound engine is a weird..more or less. You can try various things (one at a time, and then test)
1. Go into the game Sound setting s and adjust the levels accordigly
2. Disable Realistic Sound Travel
3. Click Start->Run> Type "dxdiag" and under Sound, set the acceleration slider to "Standard"

Cant think of anything else right now. OH yes, maybe update the sound drivers. Let us know.

Cheers!

I reduced the volume of the Sub_int wav file which makes things a lot better - like hearing the crew voices. I had to do this for SH3 as well, i remember. It just seemed so noisy otherwise.

Thanks guys. Updated my sound driver, helped a bit. jerkiness seems to have lessened (never thought the sound could cause problems with the graphics), but voices are still soft and at times you can't hear what they are saying at all.

At any rate it probably won't be long before someone develops an add-on as with SH3 to solve the problem.

I read about players having this problem. I've not come across this. The crew are load and clear. I'm using a SB X-Fi.
