Default Optimum Torp Range

At what range do most fire fish... I usally try to fire between 500 and 800 yards, but it is hard to get that close... What range is good?

At Slow speed, anything under 2500 yards is a good shot. I usually like 1000 to 1800 yards.

1000 for me. Any closer and risk of detection a little too high for my liking.
Dont think ive ever tried > 1500

I got a question.

The german torps needed an activation range of about ~500 metres.

Well, I play SH4 for some days, and already used them within a range less than 200 m and they detonated,
so I am wondering if this is realistic? Were the american torps not in need of a
particular range to get their torps sharp?
