Default Best speed for the viib

This has prob been answered before but my searches havent found it. Can anyone tell me the best cruising speed for the VIIB for fuel endurance? Been assigned a patrol grid near Tangiers leaving from Willi (Cheers for that BdU!) and I'd kinda like to get back without refueling in Cadiz. I know ahead 1/3 is generally the best and sea conditions etc will affect it but is there an actual speed I can fine tune on the knotmeter?

Excellent. Been running at ten so I'll cut back immediately.

I find that if I run on ahead 1/3 I have all of the endurace I need. Even took my VIIb to halifax and back with plenty of fuel to spare to do a little running around outside halifax.

On a VIIB the optimal speed is 7 knots. On the IXC is 8 knots.

Don't excert yourself too much trying to figure out what the optimum is. SHIII's fuel consumption model is wrong, because it's based primarily (and maybe entirely) on your boat's speed instead of on your engine's effort (rpms).

If you want to play realisticly, order ahead 1/3 and run surfaced as much as possible.

If you want to stretch it as far as it will go, simply exploit the game's many weaknesses in this regard, running submerged as much as possible (recharching the batteries requires only a fraction of the energy that you can get out of them) and micromanage your speed on the surface to mantain it constant (as others have already pointed out) and hapilly ignore all efects of weather, wind speed and even engine upgrades.

This is unconfirmed by me (since I've never run out of fuel) but others have stated that you can even recharge your batteries by standing still while surfaced even if you don't have any fuel to operate your diesel engines

Are you sure about that? To tell the truth I don't remember as I haven't used VIIB (or play GWX due to the high work load ) for ages. If I'm wrong I appologise

7-8 Knots, set manually. Then when you get the engine upgrade 9-10 knots.

What you need to do is play with the speed setting and ask your NavOfficer for the max distance at current speed.

You'll soon find the magic number.

Historicaly it is 7.5
In SH3 GWX with the engine additions it is closer to 8, less in a storm I think.
