Once you recognize a ship...it stays unknown on attack map

I have noticed that even if i lock a ship and recognize it through rec manual, click the check button, if I go to attack map, the ship continues to stay "unknown". Further, when I unlock from that ship even for a second and lock back in due to this problem you have to do recognition all over again, because none of my officers are able to write down the ship we already recognized...very annoying.
