Career Bug?

Hey all,

First time poster long time reader anyhow I've been on 4 patrols I've been awarded a medal after most patrols. They even offered a sub upgrade to the Gato and Pearl Harbor. My first mission was to PI and go Merchant Hunting. In total I sink 4 ships and a few planes. I get back I'm awarded another Patrol medal or what ever it is it'll be my 3rd medal and the next screen says they decided to decommisson my ship and me with it! Just before this last patrol I was the top Sub ace and the next name close was like 40 tons off.

This happen to any1 else? I tried a search before I posted didn't see any1 post this before!

Actually this is quite realistic

Most US Sub skippers did only four or five patrols before going to other duty and leaving their boats to new skippers.

Well since I got pissed I decided to go to San Fran and ram a bunch of fishing trowlers.... they go down too easy

I'm I the only 1 that this has happned too? Is there a file I can edit to make sure they don't retire my butt?

The length of your career varies with your performance. If you're good you'll be given the option to stay in combat, but it will cost you renown.

I've had a look at various files to see if this can be extended, but nothing is obvious.

At least we should always be offered the option to extend the career at the cost of renown, it doesn't seem to be the case now.

I had the same, 4th patrol (1st after transfering to pearl) just sunk 40tonnes of shipping, got another medal on returning to port then had to retire, note to self, dont transfer to pearl next time.

There was similar post than this, like 3 hours ago but can´t find it now nor recall iths name

Basically topic starter did 4 or 5 trips and after last one, he wasnt able to complete the mission objective and after sailing home, he was retired. Thou he thought that failing mission was the cause for retirement, I think the real reason was same than you have..

If this aint bug, its IMO really really stupid "realistic aspect" in this game.... 5 trip campaing

What the h*ll!
I want to take my Sub and crew from the beginning to the end of the war.
I don´t wanna end my career after just 4-5 patrols....

just to start all over again.

yeah this has been mentioned as a feature.
same as not being able to rescue ppl in life boats wich was always intentional. but gets reported as a bug quite often.

i think from a gamers point of view its a bit lame however.

still my retirement mission sucked. i couldnt possibly reach the target grid without fist heading to australia to refit, as the only viable bases were now in japanese hands.
as it is i aborted the mission and headed home, after wich i retired.
ohh exciting

kinda wonder if its worth bothering with early war careers upgrading subs and equiptments one of the things i always enjoyed in SHIII, talking of wich i suppose i best check out this GWX mod sometime. ought to kill some time tlll SHIV actually works

I did blow a lot of renown before the mission because I was given a new GATO and I upgraded my stuff maybe I should've saved it but who knew the Top sub ace would be given 1 more patrol on his NEW boat and then be told by the top brass they are decomming my ship and me with it after I sink 4 merchant ships and complete all my mission's objectives. And they give me a Patrol Medal! They outta take this "Realistic" feature OUT!
