Default Well, after careful consideration...

... I've decided I'm a fan of SHIV. Not least because I get to call it that.

I can't say I've entirely got to grips with it yet, having completed only the training scenarios and one ill-fated patrol all the way to the bottom courtesy of a Japanese anti-submarine aircraft. And I can't deny it's not quite as smooth as SH3, and I've found the mouse control a wee bit sluggish, but then I suppose that's to be expected with the improved graphics, etc. I know some people are complaining it's just a new skin for SH3, but speaking for myself I'm pretty impressed. The new crew management alone was worth the price.

Besides, the appeal of SH3 as far as I was concerned was that, alone among naval games, it actually presented an believable ocean environment - something a lot of sub and ship games didn't manage to do (I'm looking at you, Dangerous Waters). This moves that along quite nicely.

If the developers get done with all the patches and what-have-you and are looking for something to do, can I suggest a modern-day sub sim? Randomly-generated patrols in properly-modelled nuclear attack boats, with crew management, and with the graphics they've put in here would be very nice indeed. Oh, and I don't know about anyone else, but being able to sail into and out of ports at either end of a patrol is important.

Well, it's just a suggestion.
