Default what the hell are these invisible 3d monoliths fraking up my fps?

every once in a while ill run into these damn invisible monoliths. They will appear wherever - off in the distance as a small darkened transparent square, right next to my sub as a big rectangle, or 100 feet below the ocean.

And whenever I look at one, it takes my fps from 60 to three.

screenshot:

what.. the hell? you can even rotate around em and see them from different angles and ****.

id return this pos game if i could

I've seen similar in a few games I have no idea.

Can you try firing some torps at them to see if anything happens?

I think it has something to do with some debug thingy...i got a tip from another thread somewhere in here about some settings in the main.cfg file.

Change these from Yes to No:

[DEVELOPING]
DevDebugEnable=Yes
DevEditEnable=Yes
MiniDump=Yes

Oh, it's the main.cfg in Documents/SH4 folder.
This might fix it.

I haven't seen those yet. Do you get reports from the crew that they've been spotted when they are around?

Same here.

x1950XTX on XP.

First school mission (Nav). When you first come into the game go on deck and look at the 2 merchants coming at you off your port bow. I think there's one in that general erection 'cuz my frames tank.

Yeah, that's the first place I noticed this too. When I looked at the two merchants off the port side, it brought my fps to its knees.

No doubt Ubi will make short work of this bug.

I've seen these things too. They look like clipping frames. Game almost comes to a halt when they appear. They move pretty fast from what I've seen. More like the speed of an aircraft than a ship. When they are gone, all returns to normal.
For the record, I have a legal download of the game.

As far as the debug thing, I had these set to "No" when I saw my first monolith...

So THAT's what it was, while my frames didn't dip to zero, they did drop quite a bit during that first school mission when looking to port. Doesn't seem to be a big problem, it shouldn't be too long before a fix comes.
