Default Quick Question about Dangerous Waters

Hi all.

I recently bought a new house and moved (Yay!), and in the process found my old Jane's 688(i) cd in my observatory. I started playing it again 3 days ago and figured it was time to update. So tomorrow I'll be buying 2 of 3 different games, Dangerous Waters, Silent Hunter III, or Silent Hunter: Wolfs o/t Pacific (I guess this is Silent hunter 4 and not just an expansion).

My question is this, I was going to order from the link to Strategy First off of subsims homepage (hopefully you get some kind of kick back) and noticed a "download now" purchase option. Is this the type of download that you can't modify? I've purchased a few games through "trymedia" and found that every game I purchased was "un-moddable" due to the download-able build, and would love to avoid this at all costs. I went through the FAQ stickies, but didn't see this question/point, tried a search to. It came back bust.

And while I know this is probably the completely wrong forum for this part of my question, which 2 of the above 3 games would be better to purchase? I was thinking Dangerous Waters and Silent Hunter III as I've never played or even seen any of the silent hunter games until yesterday when I stumbled onto this web site so I may not like it.

in any case, Thanks for looking, and any answers you can give.

What I can tell you is that all versions of Dangerous waters (retail, steam) are moddable since the mods don't touch the.exe file.

As far as which games to buy : well Dangerous Waters is really a quantum leap over 688i hunter killer that you won't believe it.
The graphics is so so, but the simulation and multiplayer/multistation features kick ass.
For the WWII submarine sim you should buy SH III mainly because the game has been patched and has a lot of mods which increase its game value.
At this time SH IV is just a half baked sim with lots of things missing/ broken features etc... so just wait 6 months before buying it.

I've played SH since the first one. Before that I played Aces of the deep. The game that came between that was 688 attack sub for the sega genesis. Is Janes 688 the same as what was on the genesis? If Dangerous Waters is like 688 I think I would like it.

I don't know about the console 688, but DW is much much better than janes 688i hunter killer.
If you go to SCS website there is a demo you can download.

I'll do that. I should always check for demos first.

You can also download it here : http://www.gamershell.com/download_8369.shtml
I forgot to tell you that in the demo you can only use 2 platforms from the 7 available in the full game.
The diesel submarine kilo and the asw helicopter mh-60r.

Thanks Goldorak. I did purchase both Dangerous Waters and Silent Hunter III. Dangerous Waters is indeed a world apart from Janes 688! Thank you again for the recommendations.
