Default It's been a long time...

...since I played Silent Service on my Amstrad CPC in 1986. 21 years ago.

My friends at school were all into "The Bard's Tale" at this time, battling hordes of monsters with swords and magic and exploring deep dungeons. I was into subs wreaking havoc on japanese convoys. My mother wasn't quite sure what was more disturbing...

Silent Service was THE game that got me interested into Simulations. Those were the glorious days of Microprose Simulations.

And this is how it looked like, back then:

Since we're (well, at least most of us, actually) still patiently waiting for SHIV, I thought I'd take you along on this trip to memory lane.

Quite impressive how our hobby has developed during this time.

ParaB,

Thank you for posting those. I actually still have the C64 version boxed up in my closet. I also recall that the Apple II and IBM versions included a couple of extra ships...one of which was a carrier.

Great memories...staying up all night hunting convoys in the Formosa Strait. Hope to be reliving those by the end of the week! :p (Just bought my machine upgrade from newegg).

I remember the game from the old Mac Plus I had... That brings back the memories!

My crowning moment was sinking a battleship with my AA guns!! That and sinking ships that were on the horizon by shooting at them and moving to a closer (in range) target. The AI would let me hit the ship that was out of range!

A wonderful way to go to war
