I've been scouring the local bookshops here in Iowa looking for a good book on WWII submarine operations in the pacific. So far without much success. Can anyone recommend a good read?

"Silent Victory" by Clay Blair is pretty much the Bible.
I also highly recommend "United States Submarine Operations in World War II" by Theodore Roscoe. For personal accounts by ace skippers, try "Clear the Bridge" by Richard H. O'Kane or "Thunder Below" by Eugene B. Fluckey. |

A terrific reference book is Subs Against the Rising Sun by Keith M. Milton. This book lists out each boat's war patrols and confirmed successes by JANAC. Also each boat is pictured. Invaluable resource for the serious researcher.
