Default Diamonds for investments

I have always been interested in diamonds, not on my finger or for vainity reason, but as an investment.

I can't afford a polished and cut stone, but I found (five years ago) rough cut diamonds for under $100 a carrot ...

Cut and polished = $3,500 t0 $5,000 depending on clarity and color.

I was just wondering if anyone on the forum had any interest or experience in how to purchase, cut, polish, sell diamonds ...

I have already done some homework on google and found this wonderful site:

http://www.pricescope.com/

but I feel more comfortable asking ya'll before I venture into their domain.

I would need more than just money and desire of course ...
diamond cutting tools are probably not very cheap, a scope,
vise, pliers, tools, safe place to keep them, etc., but I got the yen

It would be fun though to learn to cut diamonds. I wouldn't invest too much in it though since home grown diamonds are nearing perfection. THe Russians are actually experts at it and even De Beers can't tell the difference anymore.

PS. Learning to cut diamonds would definitely save on my pocket book. My wife is currently looking for a couple crts. for her ears as I write this.

Here is one company that makes pretty much perfect man made diamonds. They can also make diamonds that are superior to mined diamonds. Imagine an Ipod that can store 10,000 movies instead of 10,000 songs. These guys are going to make that happen.

PS. These guys make flawless diamonds that are heads above the Russian versions. I beleive the only way to detect them may be that they are flawless - a rarity in nature.

I hope you weren't waiting for my thoughts on this geetrue because I hv e none on the subject. maybe bradclark1 has something for ya.

My only advice would be to carve your own path. If diamonds are of the interest you have expressed go for it and don't look back. 'They' called Edison, Ford and the Wright Bros. crazy.
