Default Help me in choosing my new sub

Hello,

I have enough renown to change my sub so I was thinking about leaving my trusty U-101 (VIIB) and switching to either VIIC or an IX, but I don't know which one. Sure, I'd like the better range of the IX and I like its size, but I'm worried about its speed, which is lower.

Except its better range, is IX in any other way superior to a VIIC? Is there any commander of an IX who can convince me that bigger is better?

Jeez...here we go, another war between those who swear the life of their children by VIICs and those who want to mate with their IXBs... :rotfl:

I say go with the VIIC, it's my fave by far. But now I'll sit back and watch the spitballs that will be thrown between the two camps. Oh, well, at least it passes the time until SH4 arrives, haha.

IXC or IXC/40 Fantastic boats, loads of fuel, far too many torpedoes and very good diving times. When I get one of them I stick with it till the bitter end

Personal preferences aside, my question to you is, do you prefer short to medium range patrols, or long range patrols? ( a long range patrol can be as short as 60 days or as long as 120 days)

If you are playing GWX the IX is faster. I tend to stay with the IX untill the end of 1943, then switch back to the VII as you then have a chance of making it through the war!!

It just depends on what you want to do and where you want to go!

I play W@W and have a IXC (which i've just had scuttled after copping about 95% damage in the carib..... when im not playin that tho i stick with my VIIB! i personally find the VIIB much more to my taste for just relaxin around with SH3, its much much shorter patrols which suits and you can always go into ports in it if you dare,, which can't really be done with a IX.

One more thing to consider is the goofy weather model in the game. The type IX´s longer staying power alows you to enjoy more spans of calm weather.

Easy now IB. We have limits. Besides, my wife already thinks I've run off with a IXboat.... and she right, but doesn't know it yet.

well, its not as easy to go harbour-hunting in a type IX when you're being chased by a trawler or several, anyway

Theres a reason why i pack electric fish in my tubes Harbor raiding to me, is something thats is carefully planned and executed. I don't pull up to just any ole harbor and start shooting torpedo's willy nilly.
