Default ONI guide

I am not affiliated to this site, but thought that some of you might want to pick this up....

I bought this a couple weeks ago.

It's an invaluable resource if you are a researcher or interested in all aspects of the US submarine war.

I learned something in the first five minutes of reading this cd. Each subamrine had special protractors supplied to help determine the angle on the bow. I don't recall ever reading this in any of the 150 books I have on submarine warfare. Below is the page from ONI-208J with this information...

Yes, I've purchased a number of these CDs as well. They're a bit pricy, if you ask me, but this is the only place to get them. If you want data on the Japanese military vessels, make sure you get ONI 41-42; this is the one that shows various angle on the bow images for battleships, carriers, etc.

Nice. I actually like to admire all the different merchantmen you see in guidebooks like this one - IMO they are much more interesting than late 20th - 21st Century ships. Profile drawings were a MAJOR help to me when I was adding vessels for the Merchant Fleet Mod.

I thought they were pricey too until I got a look at the price of the SCE.

ONI 41-42 was reprinted by the US Naval Institute Press in 1987 as Japanese Naval Vessels of World War 2: As Seen by US Naval Intelligence ISBN: 0870213148. Used copies can be found fairly easily...and cheaply...on Amazon and Abebooks.com.

In fact, this reprint contains the following four recognition manuals: ONI-41-42I Index to All Japanese Naval Vessels; ONI 41-42 Japanese Naval Vessels; ONI 220J Japanese Submarines; and ONI 225J Japanese Landing Operations and Equipment.

Wish I would have known that before I ordered the CD.

Now I have both.

This seems like a must have for anybody half serious about this sim....

I am not aware of such a book...and I have spent 18 years looking for one!
History-on-CD is the only option at this point.
