Help! missing menus

I've just downloaded the GWX Mod. and patched to 1.02.
I uninstalled all my other mods and then installed GWX.
On test-runnig the game, I arrive at the main menu screen but there's no menu choices visible!

The hot spots for them are still there - if I move my mouse to where they ought to be and click, I get new screens, but a lot of the option text from these is missing too.

As it is, my game is unplayable now

Has anyone else had the same problem?
Any ideas for a fix? (short of doing a system restore!)
