Default Forcing a resolution using the new DLL?

Hello, guys. I've been playing SH3 since release and have enjoyed it immensely. Just recently I purchased a widescreen monitor. I have successfully downloaded and used the updated DLL which allows for a higher res than 1024x768.

However, even with the updated resolution, my aspect ratio is tanked. Everything is too wide. Is there any way to force the specified resolution when using the new DLL file? If they can kick the res up to 1280x1024 certainly it can be adjusted to 1680x1050 right?

...

right?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You need to turn off your monitor's auto-resizing, or you need to install ACT (application compatibility toolkit) and give it the full spin.

I've never gone to that much trouble. I always play at 1600x1200. Avon Lady has played it on widescreen at something really stupid like 2360x1600. Keep in on the widescreen resolutions, there will be a "fish-eye" effect, since the textures are still 4:3.

Hmm. In order to get the new DLL working I had to install the application compatibility toolkit already. Can you (or anyone else) tell me how to use that software to change from the current resolution (1280x1024) to the widescreen resolution of 1680x1050?

What kind of video card are you using?

If you are using and Nvidia video card you should be able to control the screen size from within the Nvidia control panel. From memory its under the aspect ration settings.

I dont think this is possible though if you are using a Radeon video card. Well that's was my understanding of it anyway. As I was reading up about this today on another forum as I am thinking about buying a new monitor and I am unsure if I should buy a widescreen or just a normal monitor.

Anyway might be worth looking into these settings to see if that helps.

EDIT:
BTW what monitor did you buy and the size?

Well, darn. I have a Radeon X800 card. Regardless, I'll poke around in the control panel for it and see what I can find.

I bought an acer AL2216W LCD monitor and I love it. It was something like $330 from newegg.com and is light years ahead of the 19" CRT I had.

I have a ATI x800GTO and play in 1360 X 768..there's some stretch in UZo and binoculars but playable..you need to edit the config in Sh3 to your preference read the Wiki on sh3..it explains how to set the desired resolution with notepad i believe.

my d3d9 {root folder sh3}Looks like this:
;
; DX9res Settings
; by Kegetys <kegetys@dnainternet.net>
;
; Note that this config is reloaded on device reset, so you can task switch out
; of the game, change settings from this file and then return
;
[config]
; ResX: Horizontal resolution setting
; ResY: Vertical resolution setting
; useFiltering: Use linear filtering for UI elements
; enableScreenshots: Hook printscreen keypress to save TGA screenshot
resX=1360
resY=768
useFiltering=1
enableScreenshots=1
screenshotPath=.
[gamma]
; setGamma: Override gamma ramp
; gammaRed: Red channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaGreen: Green channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaBlue: Blue channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
setGamma=0
gammaRed=1.0
gammaGreen=1.0
gammaBlue=1.0

That got it! Thanks. This game looks incredible in hi-res... I still can't fathom why the devs didn't allow for it. Maybe they'll clue in for SH4.

Thanks for your help, everyone!

It's been confirmed that a wider range of resolutions (and aspect ratio) will be supported within SH4.

I used 1440x widescreen res with the mod and it stretched a few things such as dials. Looked a bit funky.

I also tried changing the aspect ratios in my Nvidia settings and it seems the Nvidia drivers have a problem with doing that lately and they still haven't fixed it.

I went back to a 4:3 LCD since numerous games I have don't have widescreen support.
