Default SH4 New Compartments

Q. Blainster: Are the developers of SH4 going to incorporate any new interiors(both engine rooms, sleeping quarters, Torpedo room, Ect...)
If so how many?

A. The release version of SH4 won't feature any of those rooms, as they would require too much development time. We feel the job of the captain would rarely take him to those spaces and that time is better spent improving other features

Yeah, it's been discussed in numerous threads already. It's too bad though (I'm from the camp that would love to see as many compartments modelled as possible).

C'est la vie.

Jupp, same her. Although I know resources and time are limited it would have been great to be able to modify and maybe add Compartments. Walk through the whole thing like in B17II? Count me in!

It would be nice to have more compartments, but I don't think that they're really important. They're just eye-candy and do not serve any function. I rather have a game with no bugs than a game with eye-candy (I know that I'm a bit polemic).

Being opinionated doesn't make one a polemicist.

Regardless, forums would make for a boring read if we always agreed with one another.

wake, crew, compartments, printed recon, little goodies in the box, people at harbour, a band that plays, ships that move in and out of harbour, seagulls and many many little things are all in (cheers to the devs!). And it is what I did gladly pay (and now wait) for. I am happy to play sh3 and happy to see and play sh4 soon. But still I want more of that kind. total immersion, ahh, great!

J'attendrai, Le jour et la nuit, j'attendrai toujours Ton retour SH4

If saying or implying that games with lots of eye-candy are automatically full of bugs isn't polemic then I don't know.

Default I'm a little worried there may be even fewer

SH3 had 3 compartments modeled with a total of 11 interior spaces. Right now, we know there are just 2 compartments for SH4, and I've only seen 3 spaces in all: Main Control Room, Dive Station, and Conning Tower. I'm sure there must be at least one or 2 more spaces, but I fear it will be only half as many as in SH3. Has anyone seen any other spaces than the 3?

Me too; the Captain's Cabin was a fun spot in SHI.

While it's kind of neat to be able to see these modelled in game, but I would rather they spent their time on the actual gameplay.

In SH3 I looked at the compartments once or twice, but as far as spending any prolonged period of time there, I don't.

I don't belive a single sole here would argue otherwise.

The point that many forget is that it need not necessarily be a compromise. With a sufficient development cycle and resources, there's no reason both aspects can't be adequately addressed.

I am one of those people who would prefer having a couple of ultra high detailed fully modeled submarines, Instead. for me, a large appeal of playing these games is learning about the history and soaking up the atmosphere. I also have a large fascination for these machines.

Maybe one day in the future we'll have such a Sub Sim where all the compartments are modeled. From Bow to Stern. With crew working at their stations.

I've heard some say well, "The Captain would never go to those other compartments anyway". But I'm sure he would to at least pay a visit to the crew in the other compartments......buck up their morale so to speak... And it does not take long to stroll from the Control Rom to the Engine room on a WWII US Fleet Sub.

To be honest I don't understand why so many people want extra compartments. You can hardly do anything in your cabin or in the torpedo rooms and I don't feel any atmosphere there. I don't want to insult anybody it's just my lack of understanding.
It would be different if you could go to the torpedo room e.g. and talk to the people. You would get 3 or 4 sentences to chose from which would influence the conversation and the morale etc. If they could do that a dream would come true.
