Default Two questions

Aloha,

I have two simple questions that I hope someone can answer for me. Given the fact that I am generally sucky at computer games, I naturally am a hilariously poor submarine commander. Hoping to improve my skills I tried to create a mission in the mission editor whereby I would be surrounded by defenseless merchant mariners with little means of defending themselves. I was dashed in this quest however because every time I try to validate the mission I recieve a "ERROR: Player's unit Type XXI#1 enters the game after mission start." message. Can anyone give me a heads up to what this means?

The other question is about this GWX mod, would installing this be a bad idea for a novice? From the little I have scanned this forum, it seems everyone praises it. It's a rather large download and was curious if is appropriate for the, well, less than stellar sub commanders.

Thanks

Q#1: No idea, alas. But why not simply run the torpedo tutorial in the Naval Academy? You can sharpen and hone your torpedo and convoy attack skills there.

Q#2: Definitely worthwhile, yes! I don't think it would be a bad idea, no. Just start off in '39 and not '44!

1) This is because your mission is likely set up with the start date before the XXI is allowed (i.e. your mission parameters say 1939 or 1940, when the XXI cannot be put into a mission before 1944)

That said... there is an easy way to get around that - just create your mission with a Type II or a Type VIIB (both always available), and then when you start the mission - inside the single mission menu, select the Type XXI instead of the boat you set! Voila, you have ships from early war and a sub from late war.

2) You will never want to go back from a super-mod for this game once you get into it. Never. :p

Thanks for the replies. I just finished playing GWX and wow, that was alot of fun. I can only imagine the time that went into that peice of software, that is some dedication that needs to be rewarded.

I also installed Shoot, which allows you to control pretty much your entire U-boat with voice commands. Most probably think its gimmicky, but I had a blast with it. Some great mods for this game, seems like a fantastic community. Good job guys.

Oh and thanks for the mission creation hint, I will try that out next time my significant other is away from home and I can play the game in peace oncemore =)
