Default Kurobox is almost online

Just thought I'd share my latest project - The kurobox - http://www.kurobox.com/

Right now it is almost done compiling code. I thought I bricked the box, but managed to get it up again. I popped a 500 GB Seagate into it and I desperately need to get this thing rolling. I have over 130 TV shows I have recorded that is eating up the space on my RAID and I need to offload them ASAP. I am down to 100 GB on my main machine. This is my solution.

Anyway, I have to say that if anyone that needs a small low power home server that can be made to do anything, this is the box!!! That is, if you are not queezy at the idea of building your own OS from the ground up (the default OS it comes with is rather pathetic). I've been running Gentoo for years now and this new installation runs fine on this little box. Next is to install TwonkyMedia ( http://www.twonkymedia.com/ ) to serve every machine in my house. I'll probably host a web site, etc. on it as well, but that is after I get it operational.

THe main advantages of this thing is - only 17 Watts of power draw. Near silent operation if you install a silent hard drive. The little fan on the back only puts out 22 dba of accoustic noise - barely audible. What else can you want from a home server? You could turn it into a mail server if you want as well!

Thanks! It is near perfect - No power draw to run up the electric bill, and best of all, it doesn't make any noise! A PIII 700 server running Gentoo in my house is about to be decommisioned! Besides, the PIII is lacking any real HD space to serve video - an added task I expect out of the Kuro.
