Default Renown Question

Greetings my fellow Kaleuns!

And yet another question! :p Say you use all you torpedoes attacking a convoy or raiding a harbor. Then sail for home and never make it to your assigned patrol area.
Will not fulfilling your orders effect the renown and rewards you and your crew receive?

There is renown awarded for....

Reaching your patrol grid;
Completing 24hr in your patrol grid;
Returning to Base after completing your patrol;

If you don't complete these then you will not be awarded any extra renown.

You will only be awarded for what you sink.

There is no penalty if you don't complete your assigned orders.

so what is the renown bonus for just completing assignments and returning back to base without sinking anything?

The renown you get for arriving at the patrol grid, stay for 24 hours and come back to base, is given so that no matter how unlucky you are with finding targets you get something out of the patrol. If you're looking for high renown values though you better start sinking some ships

Usually I get side tracked on my way to the patrol zone. If I'm out of torpedoes but have plenty of cannon HE, I head on to the grid. If I have nothing left I head on home. I have found though on next load up to go out again, they give me the same grid to go too on the previous patrol I did not make the grid on. So I do it on this patrol. Once I went as far as 3 patrols without hitting my patrol grid. I figure if there are fat merchants that give a lot of renown, I'm sinking them! Much better the a few hundred renown points for making the grid and sailing around aimlessly for 24 hours.

IIRC - Default GWX is....

Reaching = 500
24hrs = 500
Return to port = 250

I say IIRC 'cos I think I doubled mine

BTW these figures are only recieved if you are at 100% realism. Anything lower and you get that percentage of said renown.

@ STEED

You have done well Lord Vader. If he can not be turned to the dark side you must bring him before me. Only then will he understand the true power of the dark side of the force.

BTW do you think it would be possible to mod the renown in a way that one gets his "for coming back to port" points only IF he visited his patrol grid before?

I mean it would be possible to gain these 100-250 points even not leaving the port (for example when a serious malfunction is reported at the very start of a patrol) and thus after only a few 'empty' patrols earn medals (it was reported by one of us here a few days before that he got IC2 after failing to leave the port.

That's how it works anyway, you will not get the renown for returning to port unless you have completed the other two requirements.

Gotta assume it's a bug. IIRC I too have got a medal after 2-3 patrols with no renown earned/rewarded, or that particular medal is awarded on completion of a certain number of patrols. Of course SH3 only knows when you load a mission and when you dock, it can't keep track of your movements.

Was he rewarded an extra renown? (between leaving port & docking)

IIRC he didn't mention any extra renown points in his report. And now I realised that I don't get any renown points in such situation.

The game makes a little mess when it comes to medals and renown. Yes you can end a patrol right after you started it, without leaving the port and find medals waiting for you and the crew. I suppose this happens because although you did nothing to gain renown, your experience was increased just a little bit for the game to assume that its time for a medal... go figure

Probably yes you are correct but hey a war patrol is a war patrol whether you make your grid or not, sink a merchant or not. I guess anyway. Hell, it is so bad out there in the ocean I submerge in port for two weeks, surface and dock. My medals are on the way
