Default To shoot, or not to shoot?

Hello all !

I am using GWX and is currently on my 6th patrol (90-100% realism)

I'm just wondering if you would be to encounter a Norwegian C2 or something like that after the invasion of Norway...do you shoot it?

I mean shouln't it be allied since you have already invaded and taken over Norway, and all of the norwegian ports are blue?

But then again shouldn't it be under german flag :hmm:

Happy Hunting

I think their situation is similar to the one of Polish ships and state. After October '39 there was no more Polish independent state, but you could still meet 'Poish ships' that managed to flee to other countries (neutral or allied) and sailed under the Polish flag. Of course they were treated as enemies by Germany. There existed also a 'Polish government' abroad, that had literally nothing to do, but still existed and awarded some medals to its members. The same could apply to Norvegia, but I bet you'll get even some more accurate answers from our Scandinavian folks here on SubSim.

As to the German flag - territories that were occupied didn't become part of the occupying country. I mean - not always. Even Poland, that was the first country to be seized by means of war by Nazi Germany, didn't become "a part of Reich" as a whole - large parts of Poland were incorporated into German state, but the rest was still treated as an "occupied territory" (or more precisely: Generalgouvernement für die besetzten polnischen Gebiete). You can see similar situation nowadays - when one country seizes territory of another one, it can:
- incorporate it to its own territory,
- occupy it,
- or "have it" in other forms of international law (mandate, colony etc.).
After Israeli-Arab war in 1948 Jordan seized the Western Bank territory, that was planned to be part of Palestinin State and then incorporated it straight to Jordanian State (and that was a rape on international agreements). Egypt seized Ghaza, but never took it as a part of Egyptian State (like Jordan did). Some parts of the territory were seized by Israel and incorporated to Israeli State in the same way. In 1967 after "Six Days War" Israel seized these parts of Jordanian (Palestinian) territory that Jordan "stole" in 1948 and they were partially incorporated to Israeli State, partially are told to be "occupied territory" till today. So - as you see - there are some various ways of treating defeated countries/territories and it was quite similar in times of WWII.

Welcome aboard!

Thank you for the interesting answers...I use to normally sink them but only if they are headed in a suspicous direction...such as straight to/from enemy territory
