Default Assigned patrol grids

Okay I've probably missed this somewhere but...

On patrol I've been going to the assigned grid, staying 24 hours and then taking myself off wherever in search of juicy targets. Is it better to request orders after the 24 hours is up and get another grid? Presumably you would get the renown for achieving another set of orders but you may get less targets?

Can anyone say how much renown you get just for achieving your orders (I'm guessing this depends on realism level)? So far I've thankfully muddied the waters so to speak by sinking ships so I've never seen what 'just' achieving my orders gets me...

If I remember correctly, the numbers are:
- 500 renown for reaching the patrol grid,
- 200 renown for spending total of 24 hours in the grid,
- 100 renown for coming back to port.

Mods can change these values.

Yes it depends on your realism settings. I play on 66% realism so for the 800 renown points quoted above, I would actually receive 596.

Use SHIII Commander and you can change the patrol grid to one you want. Just click on the assigned grid and then change it.

The formula for renown is as follows:

Code:
0.25 + 0.75 x [realism_settings]
That means you always gain one-fourth of the base renown value. The rest (three-fourth) depends on your realism settings - the higher the realism, the more renown you get. So:
- 0% realism means you get 25% base renown,
- 10% realism means you get 32,5% base renown,
- 20% realism means you get 40% base renown,
- 30% realism means you get 47,5% base renown,
- 40% realism means you get 55% base renown,
- 50% realism means you get 62,5% base renown,
- 60% realism means you get 70% base renown,
- 70% realism means you get 77,5% base renown,
- 80% realism means you get 85% base renown,
- 90% realism means you get 92,5% base renown,
- 100% realism means you get 100% base renown.

The values are possibly rounded, but I'm not sure of that.

Thanks for the lightning quick replies (must be a Friday afternoon, well it is here anyway).

As for requesting new orders can't you radio BdU for new orders?

If that's correct, is it recommened practice or should I continue to go on vacation after my first assignment?

Ok, I thought I may have been missing something "in game" to request orders without exiting.
Tanx!

Unfortunately you can't (not in GWX). But if you want some variation, you could use SH3 Generator that will give you quite many (I've heard) 'orders'. Unfortunately those will be only for immersion, as you won't gain any renown points for completing them. But if you are one of these "it must be as real, as it's possible" guys, like many of us, you will enjoy the new orders very much.

Kepp in mind that I'm not very experienced player and I don't know SH3 in all its flavours. I've played only box and GWX version, so my knowledge about features of other great mods is very weak. It's still possible that in one of them you've got much more than what I described above.

No, after patrolling your grid you are free to go anywhere you wish. Be aggressive!

I AOD you could radio for new orders, but even there it didn't mean anything. In SH3 you can just go where you want, with no problems.
