GWX: Depths of 200+
Ahoy my fellow Kaleuns!
I've never been deeper than 175 meters in my trusty IX and got crushed (GW1.1). Nowadays I'm seeing more and more of you go beyond 200 meters ![]() In wich boat do you guys do this? At what speed? Surely not anything over 3kts? And in case you have this switched 'on': at what hull integrity? I have just entered the channel on my 3rd IX patrol (jan 1940) and all is well. But I would like to know for when I hit the Atlantic again, tonight probably. Going deep is so cool where immersion is involved. I check the manual but couldn't really find anything and F1 ingame tells me only 165/170 meters or so. Thanks! ![]()

Any of the IX boats will goto 250+ at flank (undamaged). But not much more....
![]() Edit - Some say that you slowly loose hull points but I have not noticed this. I went to 190m last night while testing something, I had 73% hull integrity and I started loosing 1% every 30secs or so at that depth.

I've been as deep as 475 meters (not by choice I might add). I didn't stay long there. Heck, I was pretty desperate to get back up! :p

I would be very very wary of going any deeper than 225 m. IIRC the max crush depths for the Type VII's are around 247, and the type IX's are around 230 something.
175 doesn't sound that bad, and I don't know why you were crushed at that depth unless you had taken some damage earlier or just happened to get D/C'ed while you were that deep. I regularly go to about 150-175m if I've got some especially persistant Tommies on me and have never had any trouble. I mean aside from the hail of depth charges...hee hee

I go as deep as 250 metres in my IXB. 260 metres, however, is a slow death. Speed 2 to 4 knots. Be extremely cautios, as when you are deeper than 200 metres, 2 knts is not enough to maintain your depth and you fall down slowly. You'll never surface again without speeding up or blowing ballast.

i never see anything happen when i go to 260 meters, the guy says: closing to critical depth. but when i am at 260 meters there is nothing rong. even when i have the first sub of the game ( the II i thought) nothing happens when i am at 260 meters.
did i set a option rong or something?? |

If your hull integrity is 100% your in good shape to go past 250m. If your boat is in weakend state then your taking your crews life into your own hands. GWX has taken out the percentage meter and it is my best guess if she will take the pressure or not after I have had some damage. More often than not my boat does not take the pressure and down we go forever

Im gonna drop a little spoiler here. You have free range of motion on your depth meter.
With the exception of the type 2's, and 7b The only way your going to lose hull integrity from the pressure (assuming your boat is undamaged) is if you: a.) Put dive planes at normal dive when the depth meter is pegged b.) suffer a fair amount of flooding that puts the boat off the depth meter scale. In other words, he type 7c, 9b, 9c, and 9d can call go a little bit deeper then what the depth meter says, but not by much. |

Greets!
The deepest I have gone was around 185-7 Meters with a slow decline in integrity (hull) which I noticed after a minutes (2% 30 sec x 1% as another forum member mentioned) time. I hear the deepest it can go is 230 Meters; sadly enough...I will never attempt that depth. haha. One question I have about the IV and the VIIC: Since both of those Sub's have a pretty close max-depth what is the average dive depth that both are comfortable at? 145-180M? -Cheers, Enven |

Often do 220-250 metres in a type IX...anything beyond that and your taking a chance

I regulary randomize the Crush depth of the Boot I currently use with "CruchDepth v2". So for me it's always uncertain what depth is gonna crush me!
That way i'm always careful not to be too bold; by going too deep when evading of DC or DD's. ![]()

Does that have any credit to realism? Or is it just a preference for you?

Mmm... so 200/220 is no biggie with little to no damage.
The time I got crushed at 175 meter I was indeed damaged and under fire btw ![]()
